The MoJo Daily newsletter, Monday through Friday. [View in browser]( [Support our nonprofit journalism]( [Mother Jones Daily Newsletter]( June 24, 2024 How many abortions have been conducted since the Supreme Court overturned Roe? Where are they being performed? What does the demographic look like? There are some clues out there. But in the two years since Dobbs, one thing is certain: These questions and far more are not easy to answer. One [recent study]( shows more abortions than before Dobbs, but on the whole, as my colleague Jackie Flynn Mogensen reports, studies related to abortion have been [delayed, limited, and outright canned]( after the ruling. The result has been a devastating loss in data and scientific research at a time when understanding this landscape couldn't be more critical. [Jackie writes](: In a questionnaire, some two dozen reproductive health researchers shared their experiences with their own institutional review boards. Most reported some kind of challenge, like confusion over state laws, increased scrutiny of abortion-related work, and at least one researcherâs total inability to get studies greenlit. Even projects not obviously associated with abortion, Mosley says, were affected by Dobbs. Some universities, for instance, are now requiring âfull board reviewâ for any study involving pregnancy. When knowledge is power, what happens when information goes dark? People, especially society's most vulnerable, needlessly suffer. And two years after the fall of Roe, this suffering has crept into nearly every crevice of health care and [straight into the GOP mainstream](. We'll see if Democrats can successfully get that [message across today]( and every day leading to November. âInae Oh P.S. The second installment of [Reveal's 40 Acres and a Lie is out now](.
