What we did for Jesse's birthday, baseball, and how I stay refreshed as a mom Hi, Friend! 44 years ago this week, Jesse was born at 27 weeks ([click here to see a pic of him as a tiny baby in the NICU](=)!). Not only did he survive, but he went on to survive a brain tumor when he was a pre-teen and teenager (he had two major surgeries and has a scar down the back of his head/neck as a constant reminder of God’s faithfulness through that season!) Little did he dream, that someday he’d get to be Daddy to a precious little boy named David who was also born at 27 weeks and who also has survived a lot of really challenging medical things. Watching these two together as they laugh and play and snuggle is one of the greatest gifts! I can’t wait to grow old with both of my 27-weekers! 🥰 And happy birthday to Jesse — the boy I met when I was 9 and became good friends with as a teenager and fell in love with when I was, well, probably 16… but he didn’t know that then. 🤭 Jesse is my best friend, my confidante, my cheerleader, and my faithful husband. I’m so grateful for all the ups and downs we’ve walked through these past 21+ years of marriage. He is one of the most servant-hearted people I know and he spends every day pouring out your life for others! I can’t wait to see what adventures this next year of your life holds for us! = Save BIG on organic and gluten-free foods! [Martie]( — an online discount food store that offers great deals on natural, organic, and gluten-free products — is offering my followers a [$10 off coupon on any order $35 or over]( when you use coupon code MSM at checkout. Plus, you can get free shipping on any $50+ order! If you’ve followed for any length of time, you know how much of a fan I am of [discount food stores](). Every time I mention the discount food store we love to go to [when we’re traveling through Missouri](=), people will reach out and say they wish they could find something similar in their area. While some areas do have similar discount food stores, I know many do not. So when my sister texted me to ask if I’d heard of this company called [Martie](, an online discount grocery store, I knew I had to check it out! I placed an order within a few days and was so impressed with the selection on the [Martie website](. They advertise that most of their prices are 40-70% off retail and I found that to be pretty true. There are some things that aren’t great deals compared to what you might find on sale in-store, but if you typically buy organic, gluten-free, dairy-free, or allergen-friendly items, you’ll likely find some really great deals on the site. I recommend [sorting by price to see the lowest priced deals]()! [Go here to get ALL the details + your coupon code!](=) For Jesse's birthday, he and I celebrated by having a morning date while Kaitlynn babysat. We went out to brunch at Biscuit Love and then went to Home Depot to buy him a tool chest and buy some mums for our front porch. I [shared on Instagram](=) a simple way that [we save $1000+ per year on groceries](and show you practically how it works. [Check out the post here.]() I took Kierstyn and Micah to go visit Kathrynne at college in Murfreesboro on Friday. We got to go visit the campus ministry she serves with and meet a number of her friends. It was so fun! Silas had his first fall baseball tournament this weekend. I couldn't believe how much easier it was now that Micah is a little older! He and Kierstyn sat and colored with their Magic Ink books for at least 2 hours, played right by the field for a long time while I watched the game and them, and had fun sitting with and interacting with a lot of the adults at the game (travel ball is the best because you get to know the families so well and our three younger kids are SO loved by everyone!) Micah turned 2 in June and just in the last few months has really started to develop a longer attention span and be able to really enjoy playing with Kierstyn and they entertain each other so well (at least most of the time!) We also have really made some big strides in a better routine since school started back up and that's made a big difference in their ability to focus and be calm (one of the big changes we made is really limiting screen time and they are mostly only watching shows on Minno when they have screen time -- we've noticed a MARKED difference with this change!) David loves watching the game and playing in his little pop-up tent with toys! I got this question on Instagram this weekend and thought some of you might enjoy reading the answer: How/when do you make time for yourself to recharge as a busy mom? I love this question! For me, I try to weave in refreshment multiple times a week. I usually get together with two different friends for a walk each week + Jesse and I try to watch a movie or go on a date once each week and then I usually take one afternoon or morning "off" each week where I don't open my laptop and don't do much or any work. Plus, I usually take most or all of Sunday off. In addition, I have a morning routine that is really life-giving and I try to go to bed earlier + have a few work sessions each week that are at the co-working space. Finally, going to watch Silas play sports is something that I love and hanging out with my older three brings me so much life, too! This Week on The Crystal Paine Show: Traveling to Kalamazoo, MI and NYC! This week on the podcast, Jesse and I take you behind-the-scenes on our adventures to visit 6 states in one week + me taking another quick trip to additional state. We share about how our younger kids did with us being separated from them for the first time ever, how we worked out the logistics of all of us being able to make the trip happen, what it was like experiencing the Teen CrossFit Games, how it is to have our daughters in relationships and how much you also just care for the guys they are dating, plus all about my trip with my friend, Jenn, to NYC!
