A shirt I'm loving, Kierstyn's birthday, laser tag, and axe-throwing! = Hi, Friend! One of the highlights of this past week was getting to spend time with C, the little boy we fostered for 8 1/2 months in 2020. He is 4 now and thriving with his mom! She knows that we are happy to help out with childcare any time she needs it, and her current person who helps with childcare had surgery so she asked if we could help this week. We were so happy to do so! We hadn't seen C since January, but he didn't skip a beat when he got to our house. He walked in and ran right up to me and hugged me and said, "Hi, Mommy!" He's called Jesse and I "Mommy" and "Daddy" since he started talking and he also calls his mom, "Mommy". It doesn't seem confusing to his little brain at all -- and we are all just so happy that he knows he is loved and cared for by so many people! [If you're newer here, you can see a video with pictures of him when he was super tiny and we were fostering him here.](=) = My sister, Gretchen, texted me [the link to this homemade French Bread]() recipe recently and said I should try it. I made it on Sunday night for dinner and was SO impressed. It's really easy and makes three nice-sized loaves! I highly recommend the recipe! I also was impressed with how yummy and soft it continued to be even after the first two days! I find that french bread seems to often get hard quickly, but this one didn't! (I cut the leftover loaves in half and kept them on top of the fridge in a ziptop bag.) [Here's the recipe!](=) If you are looking for a show to watch and like history, I just finished [A Small Light (National Geographic)]( and really enjoyed it. It's the story of the young woman who risked her life to hide Anne Frank's family for two years. There is a little bit of language and a few scenes that were a little more adult themed, but it was overall clean and very well done. It really made me think what it would have been like to live through all of that and it challenged me to think what decisions I would have made when faced with so many really difficult situations and choices. Happy 4th birthday to our precious Kierstyn! You light up our lives with your enthusiasm (waking me up at 6:15 am this week, “IT’S MY BIRTHDAY!!!”) and your excitement about the little things in life. 😍 This year, I’ve watched you step into the role of example and protector of your younger brothers. You don’t always do it perfectly, but you take it very seriously. You also got fully potty-trained (thank You, Jesus!), you learned multiple verses, you learned to write your name, you learned all the letters and their sounds and are working on trying to sound out words, you started preschool, you’ve become very capable and independent and able to help in so many ways, and you got to go on a trip just with me to Kansas where we made a lot of special memories. I love your heart for Jesus and how you ask so many questions about what Jesus means to us and are starting to really understand the Gospel. You are teaching Micah how to pray and be excited about reading the Bible and it thrills my heart that you are often begging for me to read another Bible story out of your book. You have the kindest heart for others and I love how you care so deeply for your friends and family. You are such a gift to our home and I can’t believe I get the privilege of having another little girl again after 12+ years! 💕 I can’t wait to see all you learn this next year and pray you continue to grow in your love for Jesus and God’s Word. Your life is a miracle and I don’t want to take one minute of it for granted! I love you, sweet girl! 🥰 Kierstyn was so excited that she got to bring cupcakes to class! We also had a little party as a family! Kierstyn also got an Elsa doll for her birthday and got to spend the day with C. She couldn't have been happier! I messaged this to a friend recently. Anyone else relate?? 🤭 The truth is: I used to be afraid of having teenagers. The thought of raising kids into adulthood felt like such a huge and overwhelming responsibility. I worried I would totally mess things up, miss the mark, and make mistakes. But then Jesus radically transformed my heart. 💗 He opened up my eyes to how deeply I am loved by Him and helped me move from chasing after others’ approval to resting in His love — and it changed everything about the way I parent. I don’t have to parent out of fear of the future anymore; I can trust God with tomorrow and live faithfully today — knowing that I will make mistakes, but that’s why there’s Jesus. I don’t have to mother from a place of overwhelm anymore; I can look to God’s spirit Who is in me and ask for His help and strength when I don’t know what to do — and trust Him to help me lean in and love my kids, on the good days and on the hard days. My kids don’t need a mom who is perfect. They need a mom who points them to the only Perfect One — Jesus. ⭐️ Today, I truly love parenting teens — and they bring so much joy and depth and laughter into my life. I can embrace each day as a gift… not because I’ve got it all figured out, but because I can entrust my kids and their lives to the One Who has the whole world in His hands. Motherhood is still hard, but it is also holy and heartwarming and super hilarious many days (our teens and their friends make me laugh so much!) It shines a light on my own need for Jesus like nothing else does… and it also allows me the opportunity to see Him be Enough like nothing else does. Do you ever feel like you’re just barely keeping your head above water? If so, [this last week's episode of The Crystal Paine Show]( is for you! Jesse and I have been married for 21 years and we’ve learned and grown a lot in those years — and tried a lot of different things that worked and many things that didn’t. In this conversation, we share some of our simple systems that keep us sane and help us to have breathing room in our days to enjoy our life and invest in what matters most. First up, we talk about how we each have our own jurisdictions in managing our house and business and what that looks like. We also share what we expect of our kids and how us all working together really frees up a lot of physical and emotional energy for us as parents. Then, we move onto detailing changes we’ve made this year to simplify and how it has made such a difference: like reserving one day a week for meetings and interviews, carefully considering commitments and what that looks like for us right now, and how we have our work schedule set up so we both get time to work in. We end with sharing a number of different strategies we employ to eliminate decision fatigue and to streamline our lives: things like groceries, dishes, laundry, daily routines, avoiding paper piles, and more! I also give you a little peek into my home life growing up and talk about how my mom’s organized systems influenced me. If you’re ready to ditch the overwhelm and reclaim your peace of mind, I hope our ideas serve as a springboard for solutions that might work for you, and don’t forget to snag your free [Simplified Home Checklists](=)! [LISTEN TO THE EPISODE HERE]( If you haven't been making time for fun and play in your life recently, can I gently encourage you to prioritize it? Not only is a wonderful way to have more laughter in your life (which is so important for our health) but it's also such a fantastic way to build memories and bond together -- whether that's as a couple, as a family, or with a group of friends! This past week, we went on another double date to the axe-throwing place because we'd had so much fun there a few weeks ago and we also took our three older kids and some of their friends to go do laser tag. We may have all been dripping sweat by the end of the three games because we're so competitive, but we had the BEST time! = Looking for a cute top for summer? Amazon has this [Women's Summer Top for just $16.14]()when you clip the 15% off e-coupon! I have this top on the blue color and really love it. You can dress it up by wearing it with slacks or a skirt and dress shoes or dress it down with jeans and flats or sandals. You can also throw a jean jacket over it if it's a little chilly. Choose from [four color options in sizes S to XL](=). I feel like the colors look a little darker online than they actually are. You can wear the shirt tucked in fully, left untucked, or just do a front tuck. Also, I included the bottom picture so you could see the length in the back when left untucked and also the sleeve detailing. I am wearing a small and it fits true to size.
