You also already know that markets are in the green only slightly. They haven’t reacted much at all. Even the pre-market reaction was unusually muted. As I explained to my Flashpoint Trader readers this morning, institutional traders usually front-run the numbers. They didn’t do that today. They stayed mostly on the sidelines, which is odd. I suspect they’re anticipating the start of earnings season tomorrow, but we’ll see. Regardless, [on today’s Midday Momentum show]( I’m going to explain how to TRADE this number. Spoiler alert: It’s less about the number itself than the new momentum pattern that has developed. Years ago, momentum typically flowed through a monthly pattern. In 2022, that began to change. The pattern shifted to a weekly time frame. This year, it’s shifted again… to a daily pattern that you can track using standard deviations. It looks like this: The green shaded areas above and below that momentum (blue) line are the first standard deviation. The khaki green - New York water green, as I like to call it - represents the second standard deviation. What we’re seeing now is that when the market hits the bottom of the latter, it’s a great opportunity to buy the dip for the day. The CPI number this morning gives us another opportunity to do that.
