Teej the festival welcoming monsoon is widely celebrated in the northern and western states of India. If you have been celebrating this festival or following it, then you must be aware of the true meaning behind this festival. It is said that Teej is a festival dedicated to Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva to commemorate their union. Teej is primarily celebrated by girls and women. Women fast and pray to Goddess Parvati for a long happy married life, the wellbeing of their husband and children. Unmarried women fast to be blessed with a devoted husband. There are three types of Teej; namely Hariyali Teej, Kajari Teej and Hartalika Teej. Hariyali Teej (Green Teej) is celebrated on the third day of the Bright half of the North Indian Lunar month of Shravana (Sawan) meaning monsoon. Kajari Teej is celebrated on the third day of the dark fortnight of the North Indian Lunar month of Bhadrapada (Bhaado).
