[The Metropolitan Opera]( [High Notes - MAY]( Mozart’s Don Giovanni OPENS TOMORROW, MAY 5 Making a major Met debut, Tony Award–winner Ivo van Hove directs a gripping new staging of Mozart’s masterpiece, setting the familiar tale of deceit and damnation in an abstract architectural landscape and shining a light into the dark corners of the story and its characters. Maestro Nathalie Stutzmann makes her Met debut conducting a star-studded cast led by baritone Peter Mattei in the title role. Sopranos Federica Lombardi, Ana María Martínez, and Ying Fang make a superlative trio as Giovanni’s conquests—Donna Anna, Donna Elvira, and Zerlina—with tenor Ben Bliss as Don Ottavio, bass-baritone Adam Plachetka as Leporello, and bass-baritone Alfred Walker as Masetto. [BUY TICKETS]( [WATCH TRAILER]( --------------------------------------------------------------- On Stage this Month In addition to Don Giovanni, audiences can also experience a dazzling and improvisational new staging of Die Zauberflöte (pictured) by English director Simon McBurney, who unleashes a volley of theatrical flourishes to match the magic and spectacle of Mozart’s musical fable. The month also sees the final performances of Terence Blanchard’s knockout contemporary drama Champion, as well as revivals of Verdi’s Aida and Puccini’s La Bohème. And on May 30, Wagner’s haunting drama Der Fliegende Holländer returns, starring bass-baritone Tomasz Konieczny as the otherworldly Dutchman and soprano Elza van den Heever as the woman determined to save his soul.
