Most content marketing gurus or experts speak for the need to have consistent content. ​ ​But why be consistent? ​ ​ To stay top of mind perhaps? ​ When you stop sending regular emails, your list goes stale. People forget about you. ​ I've heard arguments that the amount of traffic you get drops as well. ​ Fair enough. ​ When I visit a blog where the posts are dated and the most recent one is from 2016, I leave because it tells me that the business is not active. ​ But consistent content doesn't necessarily equate to content that sells. (Consistency ≠sales)​ ​ Giving your list a free printable or a free PDF every week may look like it builds good will, but it can also cause damage. ​ I've made this same mistake in my early years. ​ I've heard from so many subscribers who send freebies every single week but don't get any follow-up sales. ​ What’s more important than consistency is the type of content you're creating. In-depth tutorials... How-tos... Case studies... Stories.. Each of these have a place in your content plan. ​ They guide your subscriber through the customer journey. ​ They nudge them closer to making an informed decision about your products and services. ​ No doubt they're valuable. ​ But what I consider the pinnacle of value ⛰ is when your content reframes the way something is. ​ It doesn't always have to dump a solution on the reader. It can give them something to think about. ​ It can give them an alternate perspective... ​ It can perhaps even change their perspective... ​ Most people in your niche/industry may only be speaking to the symptoms. ​ This is why it seems like everyone is creating the same type of content. ​ But can you dive deeper into the root cause rather than the symptoms? ​ What will make your content standout is not that you're consistent. ​ Sure, that's a start. That's a commitment. ​ But don't stay stuck at consistency. ​ What new possibilities can your content explore?
