Sadly, I know some people will just delete this email without reading it or look the other way, but I hope you're not one of them. This is very important. U.S. military veterans have sacrificed so much to protect our nation’s freedom, values and interests around the world. That’s why I believe our government has a duty to ensure veterans receive the care and benefits they deserve. And as Ranking Member the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, I am hard at work to make sure our government lives up to that duty. But sadly, our committee found a serious, unique threat to veterans: Veterans are being targeted by violent, right-wing extremist groups for recruitment. We’ve also found that on Jan. 6, more than 10% of the insurrectionists had ties to the military. Veteran Ashli Babbitt was even shot dead by police while attempting to break into the House chamber. Right-wing recruitment of veterans is a serious problem that would not only affect veterans but could further political violence in our country. So, I’m working day after day to protect veterans from this threat while also addressing other concerns that affect our veterans like ensuring access to critical benefits and health care. But troublingly, Republican lawmakers on the Veterans’ Committee have attempted to obstruct our work and attacked me personally for addressing these subjects.
