BUSTED! 💪 [BUSTED! 💪] [View Online Version]( [Quick Tips]( Don’t Let These Content Myths Stop You, Hi , Content marketing works like magic to attract the kinds of clients and work you really want. That is, if you do it consistently. It’s also one of the easiest ways to grow your business. And yet… Creatives (maybe even you?) tend to imagine it’s hard, complicated, or uncomfortable to do… and never give it a real try. So today, I want to dispel 3 content myths that keep coming up, and hopefully give you the gentle push you need to put some content out into the world today. CONTENT MYTH #1: Content Marketing = Social Media People often tell me they don’t want to do content because they don’t like “social media.” But content is so much more than posting to Facebook, Instagram, or LinkedIn. Social media is just one of many ways you can deliver content. Here are a few other ways: - On your blog… - As a guest-poster on someone else’s blog… - In your newsletter (start one [here]()... - In emails to your list (i.e. your network)… - On a podcast…(yours or as a guest on someone else’s) - Speaking at events… Or anywhere that you are writing or sharing or speaking about what you want to be known for. Just pick one and go. That said, I don’t actually think of LinkedIn as social media. It’s basically a place where your market lives and spends time - and we want to go where the market is. And making simple posts on LinkedIn is the quickest and easiest way to share content and stay top-of-mind to potential clients. Don’t want to start with posts? Comments count as content, too. CONTENT MYTH #2: “People don’t care what I have to say.” Let me ask you this: Who is the judge of what is interesting? Is it you? Or is it your people? And beyond that, how would you know what is interesting to your people until you put things out there to see what they respond to? Think of your content marketing as part of your business laboratory. Put your thoughts out there and see what happens. Let yourself be “cringe” as the kids are saying. I guarantee your world will not end! No one is paying that close of attention, anyway. CONTENT MYTH #3: Your content must be original. Nope! It doesn’t have to be original. Your content can borrow from another post’s style, theme, or topic. You can even “re-share” content someone else wrote (with their permission or by giving them credit, of course) and add your commentary on it. You and your point of view are what make your content unique. Even if others are writing or sharing about the same things you are. Further, content marketing is not about: – Getting likes and comments… – Showing what you know… – You. That's right! It’s really not about you! Content marketing is simply a way to stay top-of-mind to your people, so they will think of you when they’re in their time of need.
