Because Josh is in a new, must-see independent movie called The Friend. The movie is set here in the city. Lots of it was shot around my neighborhood, which never gets old for me. :) The entire cast is spectacular. It includes THE most incredible Great Dane named Bing 🐶 (character name, Apollo) among other uber talents like Naomi Watts and Bill Murray. After the screening, there was an on-stage Q&A with the director, producers, and cast. Notably absent…? Bill Murray. When the moderator asked about Bill, I heard a story I’ll never forget. Long before the film festival, he was asked if he wanted to come to the New York premiere. He said “Sure. But I’ll be in Scotland golfing. Why don’t you all come here and do it?” 😂😂😂 But wait, because this gets even better… Bill Murray doesn’t have an agent. He also doesn’t have email. In fact, a couple years ago, he got a toll free 1-800 number. If you do manage to get through, you’ll hear a computerized pre-recorded message with no promise of ever hearing back. Apparently, Bill got tired of his phone endlessly ringing with non-stop requests on his time. In an interview with IndieWire, he shared: “I’m not very disciplined anymore. This was a way you could not answer any phone, and whenever you felt like engaging, you could check to see who had bothered to call and what the message was. It just freed up my life a whole lot.” Kind of refreshing, isn’t it? In a world where it seems like everyone is clamoring for more and more attention, I found Bill’s commitment to doing his career differently LIFE GIVING. It reminded me of Adele, who recently announced she’s taking an indefinite hiatus from performing to enjoy the life she’s been building for the past seven years… out of the spotlight. She’s one of the most talented singers in the world, and now she’s excited about other creative interests. And just living her life. #YESADELE 👏👏👏👏👏👏 A few things that stand out to me: 1. NOTHING in modern life is a must. 2. When industry insiders say “this is how it’s done,” that doesn’t mean it’s the only way it can be done. 3. YOU GET TO WRITE YOUR OWN RULEBOOK. 4. Just because much of the world has succumbed to a hectic, fractured, mind-numbing existence staring at screens desperately hoping to stay relevant… and exhausted by the seemingly endless demands on their attention and time — doesn’t mean you have to. - Emails don’t need responses. ([Watch my recent convo with Liz Gilbert for proof.]() - You don’t need a smart phone attached to your face 24/7. - Texts don’t have to be acknowledged immediately, or ever. - You don’t have to be on social media. - Bigger isn’t always better. - More isn’t always what it’s cracked up to be. Challenge societal, familial, and cultural assumptions, {NAME}. Question your habits, especially those that involve technology or leave you chasing anything but your own freedom. Have the courage to do whatever it takes to live in peace, your way. Want to go deeper? Here’s a good journal prompt: ✍️ If you could wave a magic wand and remove one source of stress or overwhelm, what would it be? How would life feel without it? Hit reply and let me know. Truly. I’d love to hear your answer. One last thing. While distribution for the movie The Friend isn’t finalized yet, DO put this movie 🍿 on your must-watch list. Especially if you appreciate New York City, the healing power of dogs, and phenomenal storytelling. The movie is adapted from a novel written by Sigrid Nunez. It’s an extraordinary movie that will melt your heart ❤️. Take good care of you, okay? You deserve it. With so much love, Marie P.S. Here’s me and Joshie at the premiere! He’s SO good in this 🙌 [Me and Josh at the premiere!]   If you wish to stop receiving our emails or change your subscription, you can [update your preferences]( or [unsubscribe here](, or you can email your request to info@marieforleo.com.
