Today, many across America are wondering the same thing — will the federal government ever decriminalize marijuana? Last year, I proudly joined my colleagues in the U.S. House to pass the Marijuana Opportunity Reinvestment and Expungement (MORE) Act -- legislation that effectively removes marijuana from the Controlled Substances Act and decriminalizes it. The MORE Act adds a 5% sales tax on marijuana products that would be used for grant programs focused on job training, substance abuse treatments, and loans for small businesses trying to get into the industry. It also expunges prior marijuana convictions and conducts resentencing hearings for those completing their sentences. I urge the Senate to follow the House's lead to pass this important legislation and get it to President Biden's desk as soon as possible.
