Take charge of a website’s presence 👉 [Understand Noindex Tags]( These insights are just the beginning. The latest in SEO news is up next. SEO News This Week August’s core update has come and gone. Some websites saw improvements. Others? More bad news—traffic drops. Is there any relief for those still battling to regain previously lost traffic? Danny Sullivan just spilled the tea on Barry Schwartz [during this interview](. Here are quotes from Danny that stood out to me: On Google's Ongoing Efforts “The work to connect people with ‘a range of high-quality sites, including small or independent sites that are creating useful, original content’ is not done with this latest update. We're continuing to look at this area and how to improve further with future updates.” This is contradictory to what Google has expressed elsewhere. In this blog, titled “What to know about our August 2024 core update,” they claimed: “This latest update takes into account the feedback we've heard from some creators…. we aim to connect people with a range of high-quality sites, including small or independent sites that are creating useful, original content…” Which is it? I’m confused. You? Advice to Frustrated Publishers “If you know you're producing great content for your readers... keep doing that... it’s up to us to keep working on our systems to better reward it.” Sound advice on the surface. But this feels like a hollow platitude for those who've poured their heart and soul into creating amazing content, only to see their traffic tank after an update. On the Reality of Ranking Fluctuations “You can't predict that every site will recover to exactly where they were in September because September doesn't exist anymore. And our ranking systems are different.” This is a sobering reminder that Google's helpful content system is now part of the search engine’s broader ranking system, and what worked in the past might not work now. The Bottom Line Sure, Danny's insights are, um, interesting, but they don't pay the bills. For many publishers, waiting for Google to “get it right” simply isn't an option anymore. A sad reality. But fingers crossed—there might yet be some hope on the horizon.
