Luis Mata is running to represent District 49 in the Tennessee State House of Representatives. [Leaders We Deserve]( {NAME}, I want to tell you a little bit about Luis Mata, one of the outstanding young leaders we’ve endorsed this year. He’s a proud immigrant originally from Guadalajara, Mexico, he’s worked as a community organizer for over a decade, and now he’s running to represent his community in the Tennessee State House. When Luis was a kid, his mom made the courageous decision to leave Mexico and bring her family to a better life in Tennessee. As Luis tells it, his mom’s example instilled in him the values of hard work and resilience, and taught him that you can’t just sit around and wait for change — you have to fight to make it happen yourself. [Will you pitch in $5 to help Luis win his race and fight for the change we need? He’s running a grassroots campaign and needs our support to win.]( Working hard to create a better future is nothing new for Luis. In order to get himself through college, he waited tables and worked as a legal assistant for the Office of Immigrant Services. And in the midst of all that, he somehow found time to co-found a student organization called Students for Migrant Justice, turning it into a sort of political home for immigrant students. After he graduated, he started working with the Tennessee Immigrant and Refugee Rights Coalition, serving families all over his state. As part of that work, he led successful electoral, legislative, and policy campaigns to advance and protect the rights and freedoms of immigrants. Now Luis is taking his advocacy to the next level by stepping up to run for office himself. If he wins, he would be Tennessee’s first ever Latino immigrant state legislator. It would be a historic milestone, and we’re determined to see it happen! The good news is District 49 is one of the most flippable districts in the entire state — so I like our chances! [But {NAME}, Luis needs all of our support to get the job done. So please pitch in $5 today to help make sure he has everything he needs to win his race and flip his district blue this November!]( [Donate $5 »]( Thanks, {NAME}. With your help, I know Luis and every single one of our endorsed candidates can win.
