Nadarius Clark, who we helped get elected to the Virginia House of Delegates, just got his gun safety bill passed and signed! [Leaders We Deserve]( {NAME}, huge news from Leaders We Deserve’s first elected candidate: Nadarius Clark, who we helped get elected to the Virginia House of Delegates, just got his gun safety bill passed and signed — by a Republican governor, no less! [Will you make an immediate donation of $5 to Leaders We Deserve so we can elect even more inspirational young leaders like Nadarius this November?]( Stopping gun violence is one of the biggest reasons Nadarius ran for office in the first place, and he knew that even with a Republican governor in office, something had to be done. Nadarius wasn’t willing to sit around and wait years for a Democratic governor with a spine to replace the NRA-backed Republican currently in office, so he started thinking about what he could get done under the current circumstances. He landed on a bill that offers tax credits to gun owners who buy gun locks and safes, so that no gun owner faces a financial barrier to keep their weapons safe and out of the reach of kids and others who shouldn’t be able to get them. Look, I get it — this may not be everything we wanted, but if even one life is saved as a result of this bill, it was worth it. And you can bet that when the current NRA-backed governor is replaced with a Democrat who’s willing to keep our communities safe, Nadarius will be there leading the charge to do even more. What makes all this even more impressive is that Nadarius is the youngest person serving in the Virginia legislature, and his district is the most competitive in the entire state. Last year we gave Nadarius’ campaign about $100,000, and he won by just about 800 votes. That secured a 1 seat majority in the House of Delegates which enabled him to pass this law and kill a separate GOP bill that sought to arm teachers. It’s clear to me that this work is making a difference — but as a grassroots organization that doesn’t take corporate donations, we’re counting on your support to keep going. [We’ve endorsed 13 more candidates for this year’s elections, {NAME}.
