For more things to do, [check out our events calendar](. Here's what I'm loving. "Tehrangeles" by Porochista Khakpour is a funny novel with lots of heart. 'Tehrangeles' Author Kevin Kwan described Porochista Khakpour's latest novel, "Tehrangeles," as "'Little Women' on an ayahuasca trip." It's easy to see the comparison, with four wildly different sisters navigating the world in this novel. Iranian-American entrepreneur Al Milani uses his perceived racial ambiguity to his advantage, letting people think he's Italian instead, as he creates the "Pizzabomme," which somewhat resembles a Hot Pocket. He married an Iranian woman, Homa, and had four kids. They live in a McMansion-style house in Los Angeles, and of course, shenanigans ensue. (Tehrangeles is a portmanteau of Tehran, the capital of Iran, and Los Angeles.) Each sister - Roxanna, Haylee, Mina and Violet - are fully realized in the novel in a way that few authors can characterize. It's a satire that pokes fun at reality TV shows (especially "Keeping Up with the Kardashians"), the pandemic and different stereotypes. But, it also has a lot of heart, and has many different prominent themes that makes this book so well-rounded. A piece of advice: The first half of the book is incredibly slow, though it sets up the rest of the novel nicely. Just keep reading. Did we spot you?
