'Fourth Wing' by Rebecca Yarros Sometimes, being a mood reader means that it takes me some time to pick up and read a certain book, even when I really want to. "Fourth Wing," which I bought when it first released in April 2023, fell into that category. It's a very approachable fantasy story - you don't have to know a lot about the genre, and its tropes, to fully immerse yourself in it. The main character, Violet, daughter of a general, always dreamed of being a scribe. Her mother had other plans for her, however, as she was whisked away last minute to become a dragon rider, otherwise known as one of the most physically intensive and deadly roles in this universe. Violet must go through several trials to deem herself worthy. But there's a moody bad-boy who wants her dead because of her mother's actions. This book is so engaging and fun, and it has a good amount of twists, unexpected deaths and drama. I'll be sure to read the sequel, "Iron Flame," before the third book comes out in January 2025.
