The antidote to FOMO in a weekly wrap up June 16, 2023 | [Read Online]( [Rob Allen]( [fb]( [tw]( [in]( [email](mailto:?subject=Post%20from%20Results%20May%20Vary&body=%F0%9F%8F%86%20Winners%20and%20losers%206.16.23%3A%20The%20antidote%20to%20FOMO%20in%20a%20weekly%20wrap%20up%0A%0Ahttps%3A%2F%2Fwww.resultsmayvary.co%2Fp%2Fwinners-losers-61623) Welcome back to another edition of Winners & Losers! With me Rob Allen. This week, I officially kicked off a [100 day Twitter experiment]( Iâm running in the background. Which means ⦠A lot more fun content coming soon to your feed. But donât worry, you wonât have to wait 100 days to hear the final results of what Iâm cooking up. Because Iâll be sharing some of the results along the way right here in your inbox. Plus, Iâve got a few shorter experiments Iâm rolling out as soon as next week (watch out Fiverr, got something cooking up for you ð ). Nevertheless, this was a busy week on ALL fronts â from sports (congrats Nuggets fans! ð) ⦠to finance (Jay Powell froze rates⦠again ð¬). But hereâs a quick look at some of the biggest winning (and losing) ideas and trends I saw over the past week. Letâs dive in! The Winners First⦠I. New course naming âsecretâ proves⦠promising? ð [tw profile: Robert Allen] Robert Allen @robwritescopy [tw] LOL, I can't decide if this is level 3000 marketing genius Or just straight up fraud 𤣠Jun 12, 2023 86 Likes 5 Retweets 25 Replies I stumbled across an absolutely WILD course naming idea this week. I mean⦠Why give your course a fancy name when you can call them ⦠office supplies and âstick itâ to the IRS in the process? LOL. Some people were quick to point out that you, in fact, can write off investments in most educations programs* without this funny loophole. *(NOT TAX ADVICE!!!!) But the general sentiment was this is a genius idea⦠And I tend to agree if nothing else because it justifies the sale completely. With that said, expect to see a rise in the number of âoffice supply salesâ on Twitter next week. And Office Depot will be left scratching their head why they canât get in on the action. II. Itâs never been a better time to be a small YouTuber [tw profile: Muaaz] Muaaz @mws [tw] YouTube lowered the requirements to join the Partner Program New Requirements:
- 500 Subscribers
- 3 Public Uploads (in the last 90 days)
- Either 3000 Watch Hours OR 3M Shorts views in 90 days This unlocks Fan Funding (Channel Memberships, Super Chat, Super Stickers, and Super⦠Jun 13, 2023 25.9K Likes 3.7K Retweets 734 Replies This week, [YouTube shared HUGE news]( for smaller creators by lowering the requirements for monetization on channels. The new requirements cuts the minimum subscriber count by 50% and the watch time need by 25%. And this will allow a lot more people to start monetizing their channels. Which is a key step in the ability to make a career as a YouTube creator and get your content seen by more eyeballs. (Because unmonetized channels just donât get the same [favor in the algorithm]( as those that do) Now, if youâre like me, youâre probably thinking.. âSo ⦠whatâs the catch?â Well, the biggest reason for the change is YouTube has its sights set on winning the short-form content war against IG and TikTok. Hands down. And many are already saying the results theyâre getting on YouTube Shorts (who this change is mostly all about) absolutely dwarf the reach on TikTok and even IG (especially compared to their peaks). [tw profile: Bowtied Jester] Bowtied Jester @BowtiedJester [tw] Across my skincare brand we have a new organic traffic winner: 45% - Youtube Shorts
30% - Instagram/FB Reels
25% - TikTok A combination of IG/FB and TikTok leveling out in growth, and Youtube growing like crazy. Same content across all platforms. Mar 20, 2023 51 Likes 1 Retweets 9 Replies And this change could be another step that just cements YouTube into the #1 spot for video of all lengths. Definitely a space to watch for everyone in the marketing world! III. Commanding FAT fees just got a whole lot simpler [tw profile: Robert Allen] Robert Allen @robwritescopy [tw] I've charged clients $200 and $20,000 for the same service The difference? Positioning. Hereâs 5 ways to 100x your fees through The Power of Positioning⦠Jun 13, 2023 134 Likes 13 Retweets 8 Replies At some point in every freelancers career, thereâs gonna come a time when you want to raise your rates â by A LOT. But sometimes charging truly premium fees can feel like a mystery box. Like ⦠do you just casually tell a client over the phone, âYeah, that will be 40 thousand dollarsâ¦â ⦠And wait for the audible gasp on the other end of the line to stop. Well yes. And no. But also thereâs an a science to charging premium fees that clients donât balk at. And it starts with positioning. I broke down 5 ways to 100x your fees through the Power of Positioning. Itâs not for the faint of heart. Or freelancers whoâve yet to get a client. But man, once youâve got some results under your belt, this will change the game for you. Now, to our losers⦠I. Redditâs CEO is on blast amid revolt No, thatâs not Redditâs CEO - thatâs Sam Parr, who had one of the best most nuanced discussions about whatâs going on Copywriters looking for research fodder were royally screwed this week as 8,476 subreddits went offline amidst a Reddit revolt. If you missed the news, basically Reddit (mostly under the CEOâs guidance) pulled the plug on API access for 3rd party tools. Which means millions of Reddit users â who normally access the site/app through 3rd party tools like Apollo â were locked out this week. Reddit told the 3rd party tools they were fine to come back⦠so long as they pay a $20m bounty ⦠I mean fee. And then, the creator of the biggest 3rd party tool made a big fuss of the situation. And thousands of subreddits locked down, mods went into revolt, and thereâs even been an [ANTI]([-reddit started in rebellion](. What will ultimately be the fate remains to be unseen. But I do find it fascinating that this is the EXACT reason Reddit boomed in the first placed. Some of the younger whipper snappers might not remember this, but back in the day, there was a SUPER popular site called Digg â that was basically Reddit before Reddit. And Digg did the whole API thing too. And back then Redditâs whole play was âHey come here! We would NEVER do such a thing.â Which was true ⦠until this week. [My First Million had one of the more nuanced discussions about this](. Plus, they covered how smart people might be able to take advantage of this crazy amount of turmoil shaking out and make a boatload of money. As Buffett says, âWhen thereâs blood in the streets, thereâs money to be made.â Definitely the case here. II. ChatGPT plugin âmillionairesâ continue getting backlash [tw profile: Robert Allen] Robert Allen @robwritescopy [tw] There are 23 people in the world who've made millions with ChatGPT plugins and we're lucky to have all 16,000 of them on Twitter Jun 14, 2023 37 Likes 1 Retweets 4 Replies I officially muted the words âChatGPTâ on Twitter this week. So if youâre writing any posts about it, sorry wonât see it. Because thereâs just way too many giveaways and roundup posts showing up in my feed. And I donât know another way to stop the madness than pull the plug on the whole opperation. But I did notice one funny observation before finally bouncing â There are 23 people in the world who've made millions with ChatGPT plugins and we're lucky to have all 16,000 of them on Twitter. Funny how that works isnât it? ð Alright, thatâs it for me for this week. Over and out. Got any Ws or Ls I should have included? Send them my way. Until next time, Rob â u/last_name_kingâ Allen P.S.
