She writes (my bolding for emphasis)... "Hi, I’m a DTC marketer, not a copywriter, but I end up writing copy a lot for my early-stage startup clients. The kind of copy they typically need is for Facebook ads, emails, landing pages, and product pages. It’s not this long-form wordy type of copy that I see in your emails and yours and Will’s sales pages... ...So I’m wondering if the courses you’re offering just teach the long-form approach or also get into more succinct copywriting that gets to the heart of the USP for DTC product landing pages, ads, emails, etc. If not, what experts/courses would you recommend for that type of writing? Thanks," - Dana Well, the first thing I would say to Dana is you try describing... - 34 hours of content - dozens of premium videos - case studies - swipeable ad templates - 100+page books - a new program by your copywriting "Godfather" - and more ... in just a few words. Even in just those bullets it was hard to do that :) But in all seriousness, here's the thing: I will concede the page is not short by any stretch of the definition. I think it clocks in at just shy of 3500 words. Which means it takes more than a few scrolls to make it all the way to the bottom... But to focus on the length of the sales message alone is a classic mistake I see marketers make all the time. You'll get this question... "How long should my sales email/page be?" And the answer is always... IT DEPENDS. It depends on the market. It depends on the audience. It depends on the context. It depends on the offer. Heck it even depends on external factors like what the prospect has seen before they arrive at the point of the sale. So when people come looking for a one-size-fits-all approach to copy length, I just shake my head and laugh... Because the real answer is "as long as it takes to get the job done." And so far, the page seems to have done that really well for the people in the market I wrote it for (Note: that Dana *literally* said she wasn't a copywriter). Take a look a some of the feedback... The point is, us copywriters LOVE this kind of stuff. We write it all day. And sometimes it's nice to have someone mirror your language back to YOU. If I were writing for a different market, I would almost certainly take a different approach. In fact, some of my best sales emails (in terms of revenue at least) have been little more than a headline and a great photo of the product. So I know what short copy can do in the right context. But I also know when to wield my LOOOOOOOONG form sword. And how to do leverage both exceptionally well for the market I'm writing for. If you'd like a little help knowing which to use and when and why... And more importantly, how to get into the underlying psychology of what creates desire and makes people buy... Well, I'd probably start with this new training that covers exactly that (and the over $4k in bonuses I'm sending your way when you scoop it up). Dollar for dollar. And insight for insight. You really can't beat it. Flesch reading score measures how complex a text is. The lower the score, the more difficult the text is to read. The Flesch readability score uses the average length of your sentences (measured by the number of words) and the average number of syllables per word in an equation to calculate the reading ease. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables. Usually, a reading ease score of 60-70 is considered acceptable/normal for web copy.
