Here's what our campaign has been up to... Dear {NAME}, I hope you are having a great week! I wanted to reach out and update you on our campaign as we continue to spread our message to all New Yorkers. 1. My Bill Declared Racism A Public Health Crisis Racism continues to cause a lack of resources and opportunities for people and communities of color and it has oftentimes led to long term negative effects that have plagued families for generations. The Covid -19 Pandemic has exposed these inequities even further observing that predominantly black communities are seeing three times the rate of infection—and six times the rate of covid-related deaths. [My bill, S.8673A, would declare racism a “ Public Health Crisis ”]( the state of New York and create a working group within the New York State Commissioner of Health’s office to address these issues related to racism. 4. New York State Budget Passed I am proud to have helped pass the State Budget and advocate to ensure our communities and the issues that matter to us the most such as education, housing, social justice, and healthcare were properly addressed in the State Budget. 3. ICYMI: Rep. Yvette Clarke has endorsed our campaign. Our campaign received a major endorsement from Rep. Yvette Clarke. Food distribution at Flatbush Gardens Over the weekend I was proud to join members of Abu Bekr Temple #91 to distribute food to residents at Flatbush Gardens. 5.
