I spoke with Jonathan Greenblatt, CEO and National Director of the Anti-Defamation League, in search of these answers. I hope youâll tune into our illuminating, urgent conversation. Its origins trace back thousands of years, and though it's typically associated with Mexico, it's actually a combination of cultures. Traditions from Indigenous people were intermingled with Catholic customs that came to the Americas with the Spanish (like All Saintsâ Day and All Soulsâ Day), and we've ended up with this unique holiday that honors the memory of loved ones we've lost with flowers, music, and colorful costumes.
