An expert explains why it's getting worse. [For the best experience, read in browser.]( [Wake-Up Call] [by Katie Couric Media] November 2, 2023 Good morning. With antisemitism on the rise, I had an eye-opening chat with the head of the Anti-Defamation League about [what’s fueling this concerning wave of hate](. Later on, we're sharing [a moving tribute to Alex Trebek]( — and how you can honor his memory. We’ve also got a fun look at [who we think will win The Golden Bachelor](. Let’s begin.   In the News [person holding a ''no tolerance for antisemitism'' poster]( Getty Images Hate on the Rise Global antisemitism is on the rise. Following Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack and Israel’s subsequent invasion of Gaza, anti-Jewish hate speech, graffiti, and protests have popped up all over the world. Unfortunately, this upward trend didn’t begin this month. It’s been rising for years at an alarming rate — on both sides of the political spectrum. But why? And [how can we stop it](? I spoke with Jonathan Greenblatt, CEO and National Director of the Anti-Defamation League, in search of these answers. I hope you’ll tune into our illuminating, urgent conversation. (Getty Images) Making history: The Texas Rangers are World Series champions for the first time in their 63-year history, beating the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-0 to claim the title in Game 5. Mitch Garver’s single ran in Corey Seager for the first run, and the Rangers added four runs in the ninth, with a mighty Marcus Semien 2-run home run sealing an impregnable lead. An elated Semien later told Fox Sports that he "just looked over at the bench (and) screamed." Israel-Hamas war: Israel bombed the Jabaliya refugee camp in northern Gaza again yesterday. The U.N. warns that hospitals in the enclave are dangerously low on fuel, but U.S. and Israeli officials say Hamas is hoarding reserves. For the first time in weeks, injured Palestinians and foreign nationals have been allowed to cross into Egypt for medical treatment. Responding to a protester in Minneapolis last night, President Biden said a "pause" in hostilities was needed to "get the prisoners out." Trump legal latest: Donald Trump Jr. took the stand in his father's $250 million civil fraud trial yesterday. He testified that he wasn't involved in the Trump Organization's annual financial statements — despite language in the statements suggesting otherwise. Eric Trump may testify today. Meanwhile, the federal judge overseeing Trump's classified documents case indicated that she might postpone the trial, and a Colorado judge rejected Trump's bid to shut down the 14th Amendment case against his 2024 candidacy. Mushroom poisoning: An Australian woman who served a lunch that led to the [deaths of three people from suspected death cap mushroom poisoning]( has been charged with murder. Police haven't named the suspect, but local media has identified her as 49-year-old Erin Patterson, who hosted the meal back in July. She's expected to appear in court tomorrow.   In Honor of Alex [Alex Trebek and his wife Jean]( Getty Images Launching The Alex Trebek fund alongside his wife Jean and the incredible Stand Up to Cancer team was a labor of love, and I've been deeply moved by the response. Along the way, I've learned so much about the iconic host of Jeopardy!, and I'm honored to share [an intimate look at Alex's personal side](, told by his family and the colleagues who knew him best. This fund will help the incredible scientists taking on pancreatic cancer, the ruthless disease that claimed Alex's life — and it's already raised $1 million, thanks to the Trebek family and the estate of beloved cinematographer Barbara Hanania. [You can donate right here](, and if every Jeopardy! fan could spare $5, just imagine the progress we could make. My plus-one for this incredible conversation about empathy and connection is Kelly Corrigan, host of PBS's Tell Me More, and we had a blast. Dare I say it's one of my funniest episodes ever? You don't want to miss it!   In Focus [Aria Mia Loberti as Marie-Laure in ''All the Light We Cannot See'']( Aria Mia Loberti as Marie-Laure in "All the Light We Cannot See" (Katalin Vermes/Netflix © 2023) A wonderful new show on Netflix is out today — the adaptation of the novel All the Light We Cannot See. [I had the privilege of interviewing the stars of the series](, as well as the director, Shawn Levy, before the strike. I was so impressed by Aria Mia Loberti, who in her first acting role plays Marie-Laure LeBlanc. I think you’ll be amazed by her story too! [Quince’s stunning silk collection](, however, is the opposite. I'm obsessed with [this versatile skirt](, which is only $60 and machine-washable. I love that I can truly wear it with anything from a white crew neck to a cropped tank top to a turtleneck sweater. It’s lightweight and has an elastic waistband, making it comfortable for my commute — and for eating pasta in an overheated Italian restaurant." – Ciara Hopkinson, Senior Associate, Account Management [SHOP HERE](   Photo of the Day [People celebrate Día de los Muertos in Huasteca Potosina, Mexico, on Nov. 1. ] People celebrate Día de los Muertos in Huasteca Potosina, Mexico, on Nov. 1. (Getty Images) With the end of Halloween comes Día de los Muertos, translated as "Day of the Dead" in English, which is celebrated annually on Nov. 1 and 2. Its origins trace back thousands of years, and though it's typically associated with Mexico, it's actually a combination of cultures. Traditions from Indigenous people were intermingled with Catholic customs that came to the Americas with the Spanish (like All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day), and we've ended up with this unique holiday that honors the memory of loved ones we've lost with flowers, music, and colorful costumes.   [Know it all, and help your friends catch up, too.
