Researchers have now learned that these symptoms last for much longer than we realize. Hereâs [what researchers found](: What is long Covid? Though the condition is still being studied, the CDC broadly defines it âas signs, symptoms, and conditions that continue or develop after initial COVID-19 infection.â The Omicron variant, which has spawned more recent subvariants like XBB.1.16., is known to cause long Covid, and women are more likely than men to be at risk. What did the study find? People with mild cases of the virus had a higher risk of typical long Covid symptoms like fatigue and diabetes, even two years after their initial infection.
