But for Israelis like Aviva Siegel, Yamit Ashkenazi, and others whose loved ones’ fates hang in the balance in Gaza — and those mourning the lives taken — that horrific day isn’t over. “In many senses, it’s still happening,” IDF officer Maya Bentwich tells us. Aviva, 63, and her husband, Keith, now 65, were kidnapped from their home in kibbutz Kfar Aza on Oct. 7. In the tunnels in Gaza, they were “tortured.” “They hit us, they starved us, they didn’t give us water,” she tells Katie Couric Media. An Israeli strike on a mosque in Gaza killed at least 26 people on Sunday, bringing the death toll to more than 41,500 since the war began, according to the Hamas-run Health Ministry. Strikes between Israel and Hezbollah have opened up a new front of fighting and killed at least 1,400 in Lebanon. Just last week, Judge Tanya Chutkan unsealed a 165-page filing from special counsel Jack Smith and his team detailing new evidence of Trump's "increasingly desperate" efforts to cling to power after losing to President Biden in 2020.
