At least 130 people have been confirmed dead across six states, and many more remain missing. In some counties, fewer than 10% of cellphone service sites are functioning, and widespread road closures are impeding the delivery of much-needed supplies, especially in the Carolinas. More than two million people remain without power. Some are turning to local radio stations for help. In North Carolina, WWNC has banded together with other channels to help locals in dire need of life-saving information, such as where to find supplies and stay safe. The White House says President Biden will visit some of the worst-hit areas later in the week, “as soon as it will not disrupt emergency response operations.” Meanwhile, there's a chance a new storm will develop in the western Caribbean or Gulf of Mexico later this week, so anyone near the Gulf should keep a close eye on the forecast.
