The good news: According to the American Association for Cancer Research, the cancer death rate in the U.S. has declined 33% from 1991 to 2021. That means 4.1 million lives have been saved, the group estimates. The bad news: Although the overall mortality rate is steadily dropping, some cancers (like colorectal) are rising among younger adults. Researchers believe alcohol consumption may be part of what’s driving that trend.
