September 6, 2024 We’ll start off with the latest on Donald Trump’s election interference case and the sudden switch in Hunter Biden’s plea deal. (Getty Images) Another day, another batch of developments in high-profile court cases. Here’s what’s coming down on both sides of the aisle: Former President Trump’s election interference case resumed for the first time since the Supreme Court’s historic decision granting him some presidential immunity — and the special counsel’s revised indictment over his alleged attempts to interfere in the 2020 election. Trump didn’t attend the hearing, but he directed his lawyers to enter a not guilty plea to the revised charges. It’s unclear whether the trial will happen before the election. Judge Tanya Chutkan said, “This court is not concerned with the electoral schedule" — but evidence could be released before Nov. 5. Meanwhile, Hunter Biden pleaded guilty to nine tax-related charges to avoid a lengthy and potentially embarrassing trial. It was an open plea, meaning he didn't secure a sentencing deal beforehand. U.S. District Judge Mark C. Scarsi, a Trump appointee, accepted this, and scheduled Biden's sentencing for Dec. 16. Biden could face up to 17 years in prison and a potential $1.3 million fine — and his father has ruled out a presidential pardon.   More Stories [Georgia Bureau of Investigation Director Chris Hosey speaks to the media after a shooting at Apalachee High School]( Getty Images Colt Gray, the 14-year-old charged with four counts of felony murder in the shooting at Apalachee High School, will appear in court today.
