It has become clear to me that Republicans have given up all appearances of governing for the American people and have become a wholly-owned subsidiary of Donald Trump. First, the House GOP caucus removed Congresswoman Liz Cheney from her leadership post because she told the truth about January 6th. In this Republican Party, Republicans are rewarded for lying and embracing extremism. They are punished when they stand up for what is right. When we were running from a mob in the basement of the Capitol on January 6th, I had hoped this would be a moment of reckoning for my colleagues on the right. After four years of rationalizing and whitewashing all of Trump’s wrongdoings, I truly thought that this attack on our democracy would finally be the moment Republicans move on from “The Big Lie.” But GOP leaders continued to kiss Trump's ring and seek his approval. And it all came to a head this month when the majority of the House GOP caucus voted against the bill to establish an independent commission to investigate what happened on January 6th. Today’s Republican Party no longer cares about the truth. They only care about protecting Trump and winning elections. And a party with these extreme views cannot be allowed to take over the House.
