The producer brings some dread-out lion vibes to the AMAR imprint, starting off with the heartical steps of "Burn Baphomet", a dark, pounding hammer of bass with the occasional Rasta chant. "Buckshot" kicks it all off with a mean lean, recalling the darker side of grime which would eventually transform into dubstep, followed by an equally tenebrous affair in "3AM". The VIP mix to "Buckshot" retains all the energy of the original while adding some more bass power for added dancehall ecstasy, leaving "Nightshift" to linger in mid-air with a dark, pensive banger that'll only work the charm plaid at the right time and in the right context. Unapologetic, dank and barbed; his sentiments fit the label perfectly. "Second Strike" is a demonic grave-smasher with sinewy psy elements twisting around the thrusting halftime beats like boa constrictors. "End Of The Line" is a lot more mournful and introspective as it gradually fills the space with echoing reverb and lizard bass groans while "Untitled" is the funeral march soundtrack you never knew you wanted. "Cupine" sets fire to the scene of the crime with evocative sci-fi pads and clanking, weird-funk industrial drum work. "Murderer" flexes a fairly warm skank considering its violent title, but be careful - there's danger in those moody bounces. "Room Of Truth" sees the duo scaping a much starker 4am sound that's enshrouded by cosmic fog. "Fyah" completely their triptych on an authentic roots tip, pipes and all. Finally the label boss gets ill with his deft twist up on "Room Of Truth". Like 18-year-old Brummie beatsmith S.P.K right here: tapping into his family's musical heritage (his father is DJ Sparks), S.P.K's presents a range that belies his young age as "Hot Pursuit" layers hooks and counter hooks in a way that charges with momentum yet still feels restrained. "Skeng" follows with a similar dynamic of melodic energy as layers of the riff overlap and overtake with dramatic finesse while "GBH" brings the strings to forefront for the most pure grime beat of the collection. Finally we have "Paranormal Act". The creepiest jam of the pack, this taps into the burgeoning wave sound while retaining key orchestral drive and tension. Spookz's first effort drops some alien bass bombs over a broken, deep house beat, while Sirpixalot goes for the full rave look thanks to some destructive aerial bass threats (total nugget), and Arctic strips it all back to a lean, dub wise kind of guise - garage drums still very much at the core, of course!
