[Take Off] [Article Icon 1] DOE Backs Off Strict Gas Stove Rules The Biden administration released new regulations requiring stoves to be more efficient, but the rules are [significantly weaker](than originally proposed, reflecting ongoing public and industry opposition. Initially, the Energy Department estimated the rules would force 50% of gas stoves to be upgraded. But the department now says that [97% of current gas stoves]( and 77% of electric ones already meet the requirements. The issue became[highly politicized,]( with many Republicans and even some moderate Democrats saying the administration was going too far. The new rules were developed with industry stakeholders. [Article Icon 1] IRS Leaker Gets 5 Years in Prison A former IRS contractor was [sentenced to five years in prison]( Monday after being found guilty of releasing thousands of tax returns of wealthy Americans, including former President Trump. The contractor, Charles Littlejohn, issued a statement where he assumed sole responsibility for the leaks and described his motivation as transparency and a ["sincere misguided belief."]( [Prosecutors alleged]( Littlejohn deliberately took a position with the IRS with the goal of accessing the financial records of Trump and other rich taxpayers and releasing them to the public. [Article Icon 1]Police Rescue Circus Animals from Fire Indiana state troopers who spotted a tractor-trailer engulfed in flames on Interstate 95 rescued five zebras, four camels, and a miniature horse from the burning truck before any were hurt. [Photos are here.]( The animals all belonged to the Shrine Circus. While they were unharmed, several officers were treated for smoke inhalation. Additional officers arrived to help secure the animals. A Shrine Circus director said the animals were headed from [Florida to Fort Wayne for weekend performances]( when the truck caught fire.
