Virginia passed a law in 2006 that allows the state to use DMV data to remove voters unable to verify their citizenship—a law approved of by the DOJ and used by both parties since. On Oct. 11th, however, the [Justice Department filed a suit]( that claimed Virginia was violating a provision of the National Voter Registration Act by removing names within 90 days of an election. Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin announced [plans to file an emergency appeal]( with the Fourth Circuit Court to block the ruling, stating his administration would take the case to the U.S. Supreme Court if needed.
