Biden initially [offered an Alford plea](, in which a defendant pleads guilty because the evidence against them is strong but maintains that they're innocent. When prosecutors refused to accept that plea, Biden made an open plea, admitting guilt and leaving the sentencing decision to the judge without a recommendation from prosecutors. According to a 56-page indictment, Biden stood accused of withholding at least $1.4 million in taxes over four years and filing false returns. [The FBI raided the residences]( of First Deputy Mayor Sheena Wright and Deputy Mayor for Public Safety Phil Banks in a probe believed to focus on whether Adams' campaign conspired with the Turkish government to receive illegal foreign contributions.
