Hey , In my long trading career, I've learned two truths that stand the test of time: 1 – Hyped up strategies and methods being created 2 – Traders getting caught up in them Every few years, it seems like there's a new buzzword or strategy that everyone's talking about, promising to be the "holy grail" of trading success. About 8 years ago, the hype was huge around HFT and algorithmic trading. Those of you who were trading at that time might remember rumors like "The algos are manipulating the market!" "HFTs are making it impossible for retail traders to succeed!" "You need to have lightning-fast speed and sophisticated algorithms to stand a chance!" It was enough to make any beginner want to throw in the towel and take up knitting instead. But here's the thing (and it remains true time and time again): A lot of hype is just that - hype. While HFTs and algorithmic trading certainly played a role in the markets, their impact was often overstated, especially when it comes to retail traders like you and me. As retail traders, we're not competing against the millisecond speed of HFTs. we're trading on a different time frame, looking for different opportunities. Which brings me to my point: Instead of getting caught up in the hype, let's focus on what really matters: The fundamental truths of trading THAT remain constant. And one of those core principles is understanding order flow and market dynamics. Market dynamics refers to the underlying forces that drive price action. It's about understanding how buyers and sellers interact, how supply and demand shifts over time, and how different market participants behave in different situations. Order flow, on the other hand, is the mechanism through which these market dynamics play out. It's the actual transactions happening in the market, the flow of buy and sell orders that ultimately determines price movement. When you understand market dynamics and can read order flow, you gain a deeper insight into what's really happening in the market. You can see beyond the surface-level price action and identify the true forces driving the market. This allows you to make more informed trading decisions. Instead of getting swayed by the latest hype or chasing after the hottest new indicator, you can base your trades on a solid understanding of how the market actually works. That's why, as a trader, it's so important to focus on developing these foundational skills. They'll serve you well no matter what the market throws at you, and no matter what new trading hype comes along. Nearly a decade ago, I put together a video that dives deep into these topics. (Yes, we're that old!) And despite all the changes we've seen in the markets since then, the wisdom in this video is just as relevant today as it was back then. In the video, I cover: - The importance of focusing on market dynamics, regardless of the latest trading hype - Real-life order flow scenarios in both thick and thin markets - Key order flow signals that you can use to make informed trading decisions - Practical, hands-on insights from professional order flow traders [Here is the link in case you want to watch it]( Keep trading smart, Peter Jigsaw Trading & Journalytix P.S. It's kind of funny to look back at what was considered "cutting-edge" in trading 8 years ago. It just goes to show how quickly things change in this industry. But through all the changes, order flow trading has remained a constant. It's like the "little black dress" of trading - always in style, always effective. P.P.S.
