When it comes to personal finance, too many people focus on driving 10 minutes Can't view this email properly? [View in Browser]() {NAME}, When it comes to personal finance, too many people focus on driving 10 minutes out of the way to save 20 cents on gas instead of focusing on Big Wins. That’s why Money Rule #2 is this: Ask $30,000 questions—not $3 questions. Let me show you what I mean. [$3 questions]() The answers: Yes, buy the latte. No, don’t move your money. (Unless it’s with Bank of America—in that case, move your money NOW and don’t look back.) And yes, buy the book. Ramit's book buying rule My book buying rule is simple: If you’re thinking of buying, just do it! Even one insight pulled from a book could be worth thousands of dollars. The reality is you should ask the following $30,000 questions, then put systems and strategies in place to pocket the money they bring you. $30,000 questions Question how much of your income you save. Save 10% of your income, and you’ll have $10,000 in a year—assuming a $100,000 take-home payment, for simplicity’s sake. That money will come in handy for unexpected expenses or building an emergency fund. (By the way, I recommend having enough to cover a full year of expenses. And I promise that’s possible, no matter how “stuck” you feel with money.) Question your investment strategy. Review this chart, which shows you why investing sooner rather than later is key: I will teach you how to be rich An extra $60,000 just from starting early! And don’t forget to question your current salary. A one-time raise could be worth literally millions over the course of your career. Salary increase $1.3 million from a simple, 15-minute conversation. Not bad. A system for automating finances (10 min to maintain) The real magic happens when you answer these $30,000 questions for yourself and then put them on autopilot through a system. …which might look something like this: [How to automate your finances]() With a system like this, your money is still going where it needs to—even when you get busy or distracted. And the system will take no more than 10 minutes a month to maintain. “But Ramit! I’m still paying student loans—what if I can’t save and invest 5%?” All good! Start by investing just $50 a month. It’s a good habit to get into right now. So when you do come across a larger salary or a sudden windfall, you know what to do. Your habits and system are in place. $14 per day investment Every day that you don’t invest, you lose money. If you started investing just $14 a day when you were 25, you’d be a millionaire by the time you retired. It’s simple math. In 40 years, with a low 0.2% management fee and assuming a 7% return, you’d have just over $1,000,000. [MCRS-Cathy O.]() [MCRS-O.T.]() IWT readers setting themselves up for a Rich Life today…and a Richer Life tomorrow. The curve of doing more before doing less The curve of doing more before doing less You’re probably feeling a surge of motivation after seeing these numbers and reading the success stories. Great! Don’t wait. Use this motivation to get your system set up right now. If you delay, even for just a day, you’ll lose that motivation. Or life will get busy, and you’ll put everything off until “later.” And that day may never come. You don’t have to do it alone, either.
