Once we learn to address guilt, we can make room for a more productive mindset. To view this email as a web page, [click here]() The problem with guilt A few years ago, [U.S. News and World Report reported]() that 80 percent of New Year’s resolutions fail. 80 percent! If you’re among the many people whose resolutions have failed, how do you feel? Guilty! We often think that guilt motivates us to change, but in reality, guilt just makes us feel bad. When we feel bad, we’re more likely to give up. Once we learn how to recognize and address the guilt we feel, we can make room for a more productive mindset. It’s not as difficult as you might think. So how can you stop beating yourself up? First, [watch this video on how to silence your inner critic, stop feeling guilty, and become more productive](). [How to STOP Feeling Guilty]() [Click here to watch my video to learn how to silence your inner critic]() Finished? Great! What did you notice? A few quick takeaways: - "I really should do that" is code for "actually, I'm not going to do it at all." - How you describe yourself becomes your self-concept. "I want to do that, but I'm just really lazy." Focus on getting one quick win to overcome this. - Develop a mindset of abundance, not scarcity. E.g., "Instead of dropping sweets/carbs/T.V. completely, I'm going to give myself one cheat day a week and do whatever I want, guilt-free." - 4 steps to overcome guilt: - Step 1: Acknowledge the guilt and examine it like a scientist. - Step 2: Use the five whys technique. "Why am I actually doing this?" - Step 3: Write it down. - Step 4: Come back to this tomorrow and take action. Overall, you should realize that feeling guilty doesn't motivate you to change, it just makes you feel bad. True behavioral change is a result of triggers in our lives (e.g., a 10-year high school reunion, an old dress that doesn't fit anymore, or a friend having a baby). The “secret playbook” for a Rich Life Learning how to master guilt is one of 30 Success Triggers I’ve identified over the years. These triggers are ways that top performers have mastered their inner psychology and set themselves up for success. I want to share the other 29 Success Triggers with you. [Success Triggers]() is my premium course on dominating psychological barriers and radically improving self-confidence so that you can live a Rich Life. I created Success Triggers as the "secret playbook" to improve your confidence, conquer fear, manage critics, and master your inner demons. So I’d like to be direct with you: The powerful psychological frameworks I share in this program have helped me to make millions of dollars — and live a life beyond my wildest dreams. Note that this is very different from the tactics that I normally share. It’s about starting from the inside out and tackling your psychological barriers. If you don’t fix those, no magical tactic will ever work. The best part: You don’t need to filter through all the lessons I had to learn to curate these triggers over 15+ years. I’ve laid the best 30 mental frameworks — or what I call Success Triggers — right at your fingertips. Can I give you some straight talk for a minute? We spend our whole lives admiring people who’ve mastered their crafts: artists, athletes, entrepreneurs. Rarely do we take a minute to sit back and ask why. But if we did, so many of us would say, “They were born with it.” But that’s false. Of course we all have different skill levels. But at the very highest levels, it’s psychology that sets apart the winners and the losers. I know you want to crush your mental barriers and become more confident. Success Triggers shows you how to unlock your full potential. This isn’t just about “more information.” You KNOW what you should do. But there’s more to taking action than learning yet another tactic. If you ALREADY know what you should be doing … and you’re STILL not doing it … are you ready to confront your own inner psychology? If not now, when? Join [Success Triggers]() and get instant access to the course. How you stay motivated Yesterday, we talked about motivation, and I asked you to reply with ways that you stay motivated. A theme emerged, and it’s exactly right: You do not wait for motivation — you just set up a routine to do things. And you follow through every day. You make it a habit rather than waiting for motivation. Yes! [I just do the first step and stick to it] [I find motivation by putting a reasonable amount of pressure on myself] [I keep motivated to workout by knowing if I make my workout I'll be happy] [I stick to quarterly goals instead of yearly goals] That's another good method. At IWT, we focus in quarters as well. I love studying psychology and why we do what we do … as well as how we do it. It’s exactly what led me to create my program [Success Triggers](), where I go deep on the mindset habits of top performers. If you want to achieve peak performance, natural confidence, and lasting happiness, [check out Success Triggers.]() Why we behave the way we behave Books are some of the best investments you can make. [My book](), for example, took about 10 years to develop and 2 years to write. It costs less than $20. You can tap into the very best of my automated systems for less than the cost of a movie and popcorn. Today I’m going to share two of my favorite books on psychology with you. Incidentally, they share an author. [Age of Propaganda]() [Age of Propaganda: The Everyday Use and Abuse of Persuasion]()One of my favorite books on understanding why we behave the way we do. Coauthor Elliot Aronson guest-lectured at Stanford and his class was one of the most thought-provoking ones I ever took. Learn how the media, our friends, and even we ourselves cause us to behave in unexpected ways. Each and every aspect of this book is rooted in theoretical literature, but it is incredibly fascinating to read. [The Social Animal]() [The Social Animal]()Also coauthored by Elliot Aronson, this is a terrific primer on how our environment shapes our behavior. If the average American read this book (and had the cognitive wherewithal to believe/trust it, which is another story), they would be shocked. I hope you decide to pick up one of these books — or any other great book — today. [Signature] WHAT TO DO NEXT APPLY: We're hiring a Social Media Leader.
