Today, I want to talk about Dream Jobs. To view this email as a web page, [click here]() Does your work fit your Rich Life? Today, I want to talk about Dream Jobs. And yes, I’m going to try to convince you to enroll in my [Find Your Dream Job]() program. (Wait! Even if you’re already enrolled in Dream Job, I think you’ll find this email useful.) When I was in college, I got an interview at Microsoft. They flew me to Seattle, put me up at a swanky hotel, and effectively gave me an unlimited spending account while I was in town. That’s not an exaggeration — Microsoft does this for all candidates. They encourage you to rent a car, go to any restaurant, the Space Needle, museums, etc ... and just send them the receipts. They’ll reimburse you because they want you to fall in love with the area. A few hundred bucks means nothing to them if they get the candidate they want. I had no idea what to do with my unlimited budget, but OH BOY, I was excited. That night was the first time I’d ever ordered room service. It felt like being in a movie. I could call downstairs without a care in the world and get WHATEVER I wanted. I decided to go all out and order a burger, fries, and milkshake. Total price was over $50 plus room service fee and tip. 50 BUCKS FOR A BURGER!! Who the hell were these people?? I couldn’t believe people did this. All of a sudden, as the attendant wheeled the food into my room and whisked the metal tops away, I realized that there was an entire world all around me — a world of MORE — but I had no idea how it worked. I had always thought about focusing on what I had and being happy with it. That’s just how I was raised. But as I started looking around, I realized Banana Republic wasn’t the most luxurious place to buy clothes. (If you look at magazines, they have sweaters for $600 or even $3,000. I used to think, Does anyone really buy those?) I realized there were places to eat that cost 50x what I had paid for dinner. (What kind of restaurant could justify that?? Why would anyone pay that?) [One of my favorite sushi dinners I’ve ever had] One of my favorite sushi dinners I’ve ever had. Chef’s table with Chef Ichimura at Brushstroke, NYC I even realized that Microsoft had been focused on getting the BEST people, not on pinching pennies and trying to cut costs. (One great hire would more than make up for the expenses for 10 non-hires.) The difference between "pretty good" and "the best" is not incremental. It's massive. This is true not just for job candidates and employers — but also for fit. How good is your job? How well are you compensated? Does your work fit your Rich Life? For most people, the answers are discouraging. A lot of people roll their eyes and even use this tired old phrase: “Must be nice!” (You can roll your eyes. Or you can make a change. Find Your Dream Job will help you find a Dream Job, get paid more, and even build a flexible schedule.) I encourage you to give yourself five minutes to really look at what a Dream Job and salary would mean for you … for your Rich Life. Read the Find Your Dream Job [product page](). See what's possible. Just like me when I was interviewing at Microsoft, you might discover that there’s so much more out there, just waiting for you to go after it. “Thanks to this job shift, I’ve been able to do more of the things that I love.” I love to share stories from my readers and students, because it shows that what I teach works. Here are a few recent stories from Dream Job students. “The same week I started working through the beginning of the program, I got an interview…. I knew I had to bring my absolute best to the interview and skipped ahead to the Perfect Interviewing module. I walked away from both rounds of interviews knowing that if I didn’t get the offer, there was nothing I could have done better or differently to make them choose me. The day after the second round, I got the offer — and negotiated above the salary listed in the job posting. Ultimately it was a $19,000 increase over what I was making in my old position. I’m loving my new job and I also love knowing Dream Job will be there when I need it again!” —Amanda T. “Part of Dream Job that helped me was additional confidence that I should negotiate for more salary and time off. I had done enough research to know what the market number for this role is, so I was able to move their offer up to that value. I also got almost the same amount of vacation that I had earned at my old position after 17 years. In the end, my salary increased by $15k and I have the opportunity for an approximate $15k bonus.” —David K. It works for internships: “I researched and used the Briefcase Technique to design a custom presentation for that company—for this presentation and for the interview prep (a total of 5 rounds) I spent around 30 hours. My last interview round was on Friday, and Monday I got the internship! They're paying me $43/hour which is more than I've ever made before, which far surpasses the initial investment in Dream Job that I made (and was skeptical of).” —Hassan R. And finally, here’s one that I absolutely love because it shows how much having a Dream Job can contribute to your Rich Life. “The Dream Job material was crucial to the salary negotiation process for me. Prior to Dream Job, I would never dare to ask for more, much less what I wanted! Ultimately, I increased my salary by over $25k and went from having 2 weeks' paid vacation, no sick time, and no personal days to 4 weeks' (paid) vacation plus sick and personal time. “I have a job in a company that I’m happy with, doing the work that I am good at and enjoy. I like my boss, and I have a great work/life 'balance,' good benefits, a pension, matched 401(k), etc... Thanks to this job shift, I’ve been able to do more of the things that I love. One thing on my list was that I’d 'one day' start playing music again. I’ve been playing 'again' for 4.5 years and take private music lessons! This is something that I now consider a necessity to living my Rich Life.” —Pamela S. Guess what? Pamela used only my FREE material. There’s so much more packed into the full Dream Job program. Career insights from a Gottman relationship seminar A while back, my wife and I took a Gottman relationship seminar. Based on Gottman’s research, he can actually predict, with fairly good accuracy, whether or not a couple will stay together or get divorced. Cass and I are still fairly early in our marriage. We like to spend time being proactive about our relationship, just like you might be proactive about fitness or travel. [Cass and Ramit] This seminar was on a weekend. Saturday and Sunday. About 8 hours each day. And it was exhausting. But looking back, it was an awesome use of time. We both really enjoyed it. Beyond learning new tools for communicating, just setting the time aside and making our relationship a priority brought us closer together. One of the things I really loved about his material was when he pointed out that couples who disagree about core topics — parenting, money, travel, whatever — are probably always going to disagree. When I heard that, I thought aaaaaaahhhh. It felt so permissive, so freeing. But what you CAN do is learn how to discuss the things you disagree on. How to negotiate and accept the differences. Cass and I went through a number of exercises that were really helpful, especially proactively. Many of the lessons we learned also apply to building a great career. I'll share some of my favorites... First, how do you spend your time? If something is important to you, like your relationship, look at your calendar and your spending. Are you prioritizing it? If you want to find a Dream Job, are you putting time and resources into it? Second, who are you learning from? Part of the reason I'm sharing this story is to show you I walk the walk. I'm not just sitting out here creating programs for people. I'm always investing in myself, always learning. I take programs with my wife. I do them on my own. Courses, seminars, all kinds of mentorship. I think that's important for the people you trust. And I appreciate you following me. Third, avoid perfectionism and focus on action. Was this the PERFECT seminar? No! There is no such thing. There's no perfect seminar, perfect book, perfect teacher. The best thing I can do is be the best student. If I had skipped it because one or two bits didn't directly apply to me, I would have missed out on so much. I was ready. I knew I could adapt and adopt the material to my individual situation. And I didn’t nitpick my way out of action. That’s how you grow. If you want a Dream Job, don’t look for all the reasons [Find Your Dream Job]() WON’T work for you. Look for the reasons it WILL. How one Dream Job student landed an $80,000 (!) raise Jesse, one of my Find Your Dream Job students, wanted a raise. Instead of just hoping he'd earn more, or just asking for more money, Jesse took the approach that top performers use. He used an advanced technique I teach in Find Your Dream Job and created a specially-crafted document to persuade his boss he deserved a raise. The hiring manager took one look at this and it was a done deal. No other candidate even came close. Jesse got a promotion and an $80,000 raise. Yes, you read that right: an $80,000 raise — in one conversation. Imagine if you were able to earn even one-tenth of this — an $8,000 raise — and how life-changing that would be. Today, I want to go deeper on how the best approach their career and their job search differently. And it starts by studying winners. Below you'll find two juicy excerpts from Find Your Dream Job. This completely reimagined and rebuilt program shows you how to find and land a job that pays you more, lets you work where you want, when you want, and gets you excited to go to work again. #1: Behind an $80,000 raise: Advanced interviewing techniques From the outside, negotiating a massive raise might seem a bit like magic. This video takes you behind the scenes of how one Find Your Dream Job student landed an $80,000 raise — including the actual document he used to make his case and the psychology behind why this works.
