[Read it online]( [header] --------------------------------------------------------------- ISSUE JUNE 26, 2020 [leading] Flare-ups of COVID-19 in the U.S. have delivered a fresh gut check to bulls on Wall Street, following an unprecedented market rebound from the coronavirus-ignited downturn back in March. The U.S. recorded a one-day total of 34,700 new confirmed COVID-19 cases, the highest figure since late April, when the number was viewed as having peaked at 36,400, the Associated Press reported, citing using data compiled by Johns Hopkins University. While the ramp-up in infections may not represent a “second wave” — most experts say we remain in the first wave in the U.S., and at least one has observed that a forest fire might be a more apt description than first, second and subsequent waves — the equity market on Wednesday suffered its biggest selloff since June 11, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the S&P 500 index ending the session 2.6% or more lower and the Nasdaq Composite Index snapping an eight-day winning streak. Over the course of this pandemic, some market experts have sought to evolve into armchair epidemiologists, assessing the implications of the rising tide of infections in the U.S. and around the globe. Thomas Lee, head of Fundstrat Global Advisors, in a research report Monday, said that the biggest implications were on policy. “This raises many questions but the most important is the policy direction. Given the surge in COVID-19 cases, states and the U.S. need to mitigate transmission — [which is to say] course correct,” wrote Lee. Liberal vs liberal arguments are quite entertaining. An Ohio Democrat party county official has threatened a fellow Democrat with ejection from the party, condemning his pro-life tweet as “racist and sexist.” In his tweet Friday, Hamilton County Auditor Dusty Rhodes suggested the words “Black Lives Matter” should be painted in front of a building he referenced as abortion provider Planned Parenthood. He wrote, “Just wondering when they are going to paint ‘Black Lives Matter’ on Auburn Avenue, you know, in front of that building where they terminate black lives and white ones, too, almost every day of the week.” [liberal] That tweet drew the ire of Hamilton County Democrat Chairwoman Gwen McFarlin, who released a statement calling Rhodes’ comment “racist and sexist,” and said she “will not condone his behavior any longer.” “I condemn this comment which I would not expect from an elected official let alone a Democratically endorsed elected official,” McFarlin said. “His offensive comments are aimed at black, brown, and other marginalized groups as well as women. The Democratic Party supports the Black Lives Matter movement and women’s reproductive rights.”  “I will bring options to the Hamilton County Democratic Party officers including a resolution launching a formal censure process and a resolution declaring that we will not support his reelection and plan to endorse a Democrat for Auditor who shares our values.” WOW, do the dems have to sign a deal with the devil when they take office? [trumpspacer] President Donald Trump issued an executive order Wednesday that seeks to strengthen the nation’s child welfare system in order to reduce the need for vulnerable children to be placed in foster care and encourage permanent adoptions. “The best foster care system is one that is not needed in the first place,” the president said in his executive order, but added that “challenges remain” Trump continued his executive order will promote “partnerships” between state and local child welfare agencies and private organizations, including faith-based groups. The order also seeks to provide support for those who offer to be foster and adoptive parents, and to reduce the existing “bureaucratic barriers” that present obstacles to children obtaining the help they need. The president said: It is the goal of the United States to promote a child welfare system that reduces the need to place children into foster care; achieves safe permanency for those children who must come into foster care, and does so more quickly and more effectively; places appropriate focus on children who are waiting for adoption, especially those who are 9 years and older, are in sibling groups, or have disabilities; and decreases the proportion of young adults who age out of the foster care system. But every once in a while, a photo comes along that brings hope to people. Someone will catch a brief moment of humanity and find it heartwarming, and then share it to show that there is still some good in this world. For many, that photo happens to be of a situation that took place on June 1, when a young girl approached a group of police officers who were all geared up and standing in front of a freeway on-ramp in San Diego. While her side of the story goes unspoken, one of the officers at the scene told what he experienced in the exchange. He seemed to be prepared for such a meeting, as though he was decked out in riot gear, he apparently also had stickers in his pocket. “She came around with a smile and I took the opportunity… I reached in my pocket,” the California Highway Patrol officer, Mitchell Byrd, said. “I had some stickers on me, and I said, ‘Hey, do you want a sticker?'” “Her dad, just before that, had told us, ‘Oh, she wants to be a police officer.'” According to Byrd, it was a heartfelt encounter that they all needed. “She was just so comfortable in that moment and it made us comfortable to be there in that moment as well,” he said. “It was really humbling to be a part of that.” “To see us in all of our big gear and she ran with a smile on her face, gave us all high fives, wanted to take a picture,” he added when speaking to KGTV. “It was pretty, pretty awesome.” [More Here](  How was todays issue?
