[View Message in Browser]( / [Add Us to Safe Sender List]( [Content Marketing Institute]( [Content Marketing Institute]( Daily News and Alert 9.16.24 Connect with CMI Hi there, You’ve probably heard that good marketing jobs are both hard to find and hard to hang onto these days. You may even have first-hand experience with these struggles — or know someone else who has. In CMI’s upcoming 2025 Career Outlook research, one in three marketers said their company laid off marketing employees in the last 12 months. Further, 68% believe finding a job in marketing today is more challenging than five years ago. (Look for the full report on Wednesday for some encouraging findings.) Why? Economic uncertainty is likely a contributor, causing companies to freeze hiring and employees to cling to their current roles. Heinz Marketing Founder (and CMWorld alumnus) [Matt Heinz says]( that includes people stuck working under toxic conditions. If the U.S. Fed cuts interest rates this week, Matt says it could lead to a more positive future job market. But if you’re job hunting right now, you might relate to the experiences shared by some [CMI Slack Community]( members. (Not a member? [Sign up today]( to access these conversations.) - Application efforts that result in few interviews - Side hustles to supplement smaller salary offers - Wasted time applying to “ghost jobs” — listings for jobs that don’t exist. Despite the challenges, marketers can still secure great positions. It just might take some extra legwork. Ok, maybe a LOT of legwork, judging by the effort [Heike Young]( (a 2019 Content Marketer of the Year finalist) put into securing a content leadership role at Microsoft. CMI Slack group member [Penny Gralewski]( suggests a less intense approach: “It's all about who you know, so network! Schedule coffees and lunches with colleagues. Comment on LinkedIn posts … Join webinars and virtual events to stay educated. Volunteer with non-profits to keep building your portfolio.” If you’ve been job hunting, what’s your experience been like?
