The Independent's Morning Headlines email [View online]( January 10, 2023 [Morning Headlines]( 1 / [Royal despair over ‘impossible’ reconciliation as Harry ‘kidnapped by cult of psychotherapy’]( A reconciliation with Prince Harry is “impossible” because the King, Queen Consort and Prince William fear anything they say will be made public, The Independent understands. A source close to the royal family said the King, Camilla and William believe the situation will remain unchanged while the Duke of Sussex remains effectively “kidnapped by a cult of psychotherapy and Meghan”. “They are trapped,” said the source. “They really can't engage because everything they say will be shared with the media. It is impossible to have a conversation or write a letter because of the risk that anything they say being put in the public domain by Harry, potentially for commercial benefit. “There has been a complete breakdown of trust.” Buckingham Palace has remained silent over the flurry of allegations made by Prince Harry in his memoir, Spare, and numerous television interviews. Despite claiming he was attacked by his brother and describing the Queen Consort as a “villain”, Harry has insisted he would like a relationship with his family.   2 / [Pioneering Virgin Orbit launch ends in failure]( Private space company gives very little information on ‘anomaly’ 3 /[Fishnets and Tinder: MPs reveal toxic sexism in Westminster]( As research highlights the shocking ‘exclusionary’ culture in parliament, female MPs tell The Independent their stories 4 / [Putin’s forces ‘step over corpses of own soldiers’]( Fighting in Bahkmut and Soledar ‘most intense on entire frontline’ in war 5 / [Huge meteor spotted in night sky over UK as residents ‘stunned’]( Fireball lit up the sky at around 8pm on Monday     The Big Question Does King Charles have a responsibility to fix the feud between William and Harry? “Conflict is not necessarily a bad thing,” says psychiatrist Dr Sunil Raheja, surveying the present state of the most talked-about sibling relationship in the world. “It can be a good thing if handled correctly. But you need to be very careful about hanging your dirty laundry out in public.” Perhaps nobody understands this better than the Royal Family, who are famously raised on the philosophy of “never complain, never explain”. Which is what makes the intimacies disclosed in Prince Harry’s memoir Spare so surprising. The Duke of Sussex has provided explosive details of his feud with his brother – while simultaneously appealing for an end to hostilities. “I would like to get my father back; I would like to have my brother back,” he told ITV last week. The question now is whether a rapprochement is possible. “Sibling rivalry can be hugely destructive to families,” says Emma Citron, a consultant clinical psychologist. “We all know families who have been totally split by arguments, a stance or an act of behaviour.” A typical means of reconciliation in such cases is family therapy, says Citron. “I would look for trying to sit down and have brother therapy, with or without dad – and probably with,” she says.
