The Independent's Morning Headlines email [View online]( August 26, 2022 [Morning Headlines]( 1 / [Ofgem confirms energy price cap will rise to £3,549 from October]( The UK’s energy regulator has set the new price cap at £3,549 from October. The energy price cap is the maximum amount that gas suppliers can charge customers per unit of energy. Ofgem decides the price cap by observing what wholesale energy prices do over several months. The chief executive of Ofgem has urged the incoming prime minister to do more to deal with the impact of energy price rises as the cap on energy bills soared 80 per cent. Jonathan Brearley said the government would need to add to the support it announced in May when bills were only expected to jump to £2,800. "The government support package is delivering help right now, but it's clear the new prime minister will need to act further to tackle the impact of the price rises that are coming in October and next year," Mr Brearley said. "The response will need to match the scale of the crisis we have before us. With the right support in place and with regulator, government, industry and consumers working together, we can find a way through this."   2 / [‘It is not about being a snitch’: Olivia Pratt-Korbel’s family plea for information after shooting]( ‘If anyone knows anything, now is the time to speak up,’ says family of nine-year-old girl 3 / [Help with exams should remain next year, unions say]( ‘We must turn our attention to next year’s cohort who have also suffered significant disruption,’ union leader says 4 / [Liz Truss says ‘jury’s out’ on whether Macron is ‘friend or foe’]( The Foreign Secretary and her rival candidate Rishi Sunak were asked a series of quickfire questions at the Norwich hustings 5 / [Judge orders release of redacted affidavit in FBI search of Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home]( The Department of Justice now has until noon Friday to file the redacted affidavit on the public docket     The Big Question Who is Joseph Nee, the target of the Liverpool shooting? The intended target of the shooting that killed nine-year-old Olivia Pratt-Korbel in Liverpool has been named as Joseph Nee, a 35-year-old burglar. The girl and her mother Cheryl Korbel, 46, were both shot by an assailant in a black balaclava on Monday night when a man forced his way into their home on Kingsheath Avenue, Knotty Ash, as he desperately attempted to escape the unidentified attacker. Ms Korbel and the fugitive sustained only minor wounds but the child died of her injuries while the target called friends to deliver him to hospital in an Audi rather than seek help.
