Directors direct. Actors act. And Producers, well...produce. But have you ever wondered what that actually means? Producer Wendy Jacobson has worked on such Marvel projects as SHE-HULK: ATTORNEY AT LAW, and BLACK PANTHER: WAKANDA FOREVER. Most recently, she served as an executive producer on the upcoming DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE. Wendy chatted with us about getting shit done, her journey to Marvel, and IMAX. Read on about her experiences, and [then get your tickets to see DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE on opening weekend.Â](   1. Can you talk a bit about where fans can expect to see Deadpool on his third cinematic outing, alongside his new partner-in-crime, Wolverine? Are there any other works that inspired their journey in this film? Classic oil-and-water buddy comedies like MIDNIGHT RUN, 48 HRS., and PLANES, TRAINS, AND AUTOMOBILES were referenced heavily throughout the development and production of this film. 2. For those who might not know what a producer does, can you talk a little bit about what a typical workday looks like for you? What might surprise people about your job? To me, there is no typical workday for a producer, and it really depends on what part of the filmmaking process you’re in on any given project: development, production, or post-production. What might surprise people about producing is that every producer has a different style, and, certainly, every producer has to adapt that style to the filmmakers they work with and support. On a movie like DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE, with such experienced and talented creative leaders like Shawn Levy, Ryan Reynolds, and Hugh Jackman, my role is really to support making their creative vision into reality as best I can. 3. You’ve had this great, steady climb in your career over the last ten years, and I’m sure our fans would love to hear more about it. Can you talk a little bit about your journey from assistant all the way up to Executive Producer? Any advice for readers who may want to pursue producing as a career?  My advice for anyone who wants to pursue producing is to be sure you really love it, because it is not for the faint of heart. There are plenty of misconceptions about producing as a glorious profession, but the truth is, it’s all about making things happen, turning no’s into yes’s, or as famous director once told me… it’s about “getting sh*t done.” Your job is to the move the ball down the field every day and to be ready to react to any given task, whether that be giving feedback on a draft or edit, chasing down rights to a song, or anything at all, to fulfill the needs of your filmmakers, cast and crew. It’s the “whatever it takes” job. If you find gratification in accomplishing even the smallest task on a movie knowing that it will genuinely contribute to making it better – then follow your dreams because producing is the life for you. 4. Fans are excitedly anticipating the more comic-book accurate looks for the characters used in the film (Deadpool’s pulling from a ‘90s comic iteration, and Wolverine in his iconic yellow and blue fit fans will recognize from the animated series). Are there any other easter eggs or deep cuts fans should keep their eyes peeled for? I’ll try to answer this question without incurring the wrath of the Marvel Security Seal Team… It’s a DEADPOOL movie, so iconography is essential to that world. There are countless Easter eggs and deep cuts. But none of these are done thoughtlessly or in a way that isn’t congruent with the story we’re telling. 5. What is your own relation to comic books and superhero movies? Do you have a favorite genre of film or literature? What works inspired you to pursue a career in film?  I dabbled in a few comic books here and there as a child, but I’ll admit that I wasn’t the most avid reader of them until joining Marvel in 2019. You can’t work on a project here without reading every comic you can get your hands on for a particular character, as it should be. My relationship to superhero movies is that I grew up watching them in theaters. I still distinctly remember watching Hugh Jackman as Wolverine in all of the X-MEN films, so imagine how starstruck I was when I finally met him on the set of this movie! And prior to joining Marvel, like many of you I imagine, I was simply a fan of the MCU. Not because they were great superhero movies or comic book movies, but because they were great movies, period. I found the films to be moving, entertaining, and full of spectacle and grandeur, but, at the end of the day, they were all grounded in these incredible characters who I wanted to root for and couldn’t wait to see more of. 6. If there was one movie you could watch again for the first time in IMAX, what would it be? Man, this is a tough-one, but gun to my head: BRAVEHEART. DEAPOOL & WOLVERINE opens July 26th.
