Seeing as most of us frequently find ourselves closer to the latter these days it’s hard not to feel some kind of joy when politicians make a fool of themselves. This week it was the turn of US senators and their questioning of Google CEO Sundar Pichai. Now, I know technology can be hard to get your head round sometimes – you just have to read some of the stuff I’ve written to realize that. However, you would hope that a group of people who had been tasked with asking questions in order to get to the bottom of what is quite a serious issue, would have done some research first. Apparently not. So, here are a few selected highlights from the hearing: Ted Pope, Republican Senator for Texas not understanding that the answer to ‘Is Google tracking me?’ is not a straightforward yes or no, it actually depends on what settings he’s opted in to (or not opted out of if we recall the story from August).
