[Hypebeast] May 23, 2024 Weekly Digest ⛓️ Ye: Exclusive Cover Story Interview TLDR: Now, 20 years out from Ye’s first album release and coincidentally 20 years out from Hypebeast’s own nascent beginnings, we sat down with the oft-impulsive artist to get a glimpse of just what, exactly, comprises his present, as well as what he has in store for the future. Like it or not, here Ye comes. Why It Matters: Like a persistent nemesis of sorts, the life of Ye—formerly known as Kanye West —is a constant presence that has grown with us throughout the years. Whether we consciously keep up with his career or not, we’re all familiar with his many eras, where the only abiding variable seems to be how he flits from one to the other in the blink of an eye, often influencing the zeitgeist in tandem with his own evolutions. "Everybody has a position in life, but you need a leader, a founder, a conductor, a director, a producer, a maestro, a composer, and I do all of these things," says Ye. Why It Matters: A celebration of New York City’s incomparable creative community, Hypebeast Flea New York featured more than 40 local vendors, with wares ranging from home goods and ceramics to clothing, cameras and food. Born in London to Nigerian parents and better known to most as Skepta, he has steadily become one of the greatest artists to emanate from the UK in a generation. Why It Matters: From his earliest days DJing on pirate radio and creating some of the most seminal grime tracks on his PlayStation, to becoming a Mercury Prize-winning songwriter with five studio albums to his name. Skepta is arguably the most successful MC the UK has ever produced, as his impact on culture is undeniable. His body of work speaks for itself: after his first records, Greatest Hits (2007) and Microphone Champion (2009), Blacklisted (2012) was Skepta’s moment of reinvention — a reinvigoration of sorts that set him on a course to becoming a globally-renowned star. It all started with him pivoting into his own blueprint. That’s when everything changed. Why It Matters: “We had been talking a lot about the formalwear influence within post-pandemic fashion and design,” senior footwear designer Charlotte Lee added. “And we were obviously noticing people buying into more formal silhouettes, whether it was clothing or footwear.” This movement led Lee and Perry to question what that meant for the sports industry as a whole, and for its brands too. “If people are wearing more brown shoes or leather products, how does that crossover with a brand like New Balance?” With sneaker overload hitting an all time high over the past couple of years thanks to a sheer oversaturation of product, it’s no wonder many were led to feel some level of “sneaker fatigue.” Read the full article [here](. --------------------------------------------------------------- 🥵 Stüssy Preps for Warmer Temperatures With Summer 2024 Collection TLDR: Although it feels like spring is just getting its footing, summer is already around the corner.
