Oscar Nominations 2024 ►🏆 Nolan's year 🏆 Oppenheimer leads the 2024 Oscar nominations, which were revealed Tuesday morning. Christopher Nolan's film nabbed a total of 13 noms, followed by Poor Things with 11, Killers of the Flower Moon with 10 and Barbie with eight. All four films will compete for the Academy Award for best picture, along with American Fiction, Anatomy of a Fall, The Holdovers, Maestro, Past Lives and The Zone of Interest. Native American characters have been depicted in the movies since the dawn of Hollywood, but in 2024 an actual Native American actor has finally been nominated for an Academy Award. Lily Gladstone (Blackfeet/Nimiipuu) has been a frontrunner all season for her performance in Killers of the Flower Moon, and on Tuesday morning, she officially became a best actress Oscar nominee. He was 97. A seven-time Oscar nominee, Jewison received the prestigious Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award from the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences in 1999. Scott Stuber, who pushed Netflix to expand into blockbuster movie territory, is stepping down from the streaming service’s top film job to form his own media company. In addition, the company is granting Johnson full ownership of his trademarked in-ring name “The Rock,” with the actor and entrepreneur inking a services and merchandising agreement with the company. [The story.]( —✊ Strike action ✊ More than 400 Condé Nast Union members at Vanity Fair, Vogue and GQ as well as Allure, Architectural Digest, Bon Appétit, Condé Nast Traveler, Epicurious, Glamour, Self, Teen Vogue and Condé Nast Entertainment are set to strike for 24 hours on Tuesday and hold a rally in front of the company’s offices in New York. The action stems from labor negotiations that have turned sour since Condé Nast CEO Roger Lynch announced the company’s intentions to cut 5 percent of its workforce on Nov. 1. [The story.]( 'Expend4bles' Leads Razzie Noms ►🏆 The best of the worst 🏆 Expend4bles leads the nominees for the Golden Raspberry Awards which were unveiled Monday morning, with the action film earning seven Razzie noms. Expend4bles is one of five movies competing for “worst picture” of the year, the others are The Exorcist: Believer, Meg 2: The Trench, Shazam! Fury of the Gods and Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey. Among the acting contenders are former Oscar winners Jon Voight, Russell Crowe and Helen Mirren, as well as Razzie “Repeat Offenders” Sylvester Stallone, Megan Fox and Jennifer Lopez. French prosecutors have dismissed a complaint by French actress Hélène Darras claiming she was sexually assaulted by Gérard Depardieu, citing the statute of limitations for the alleged crime. Darras filed an official complaint against the 75-year-old French actor, claiming Depardieu assaulted her on the set of Fabien Onteniente’s film Disco in 2007. Darras made her allegations public in an interview on French TV in December. Thirteen women have come forward to accuse Depardieu of sexual assault involving incidents spanning two decades. [The story.]( —"We’re a company without a sharp enough focus." League of Legends and Arcane studio Riot Games set to lay off some 530 employees, representing 11 percent of its employee base. The company informed staff of the cuts Monday afternoon. The decision to cut staff "isn’t to appease shareholders or to hit a quarterly earnings number—it’s a necessity," the company said in a statement, adding that it intends to focus on fewer projects, but that have a bigger impact. [The story.]( Netflix Nabs WWE 'Raw' Rights In Whopping $5B Deal ►🤝 "This deal is transformative" 🤝 WWE's Monday Night Raw will leave USA Network for Netflix beginning in Jan. 2025. The streamer will also be the exclusive home of WWE content outside the U.S., including its live shows and premium events like Wrestlemania, as well as docs and original series. The deal, which a source pegs at 10 years and is valued at about $5b, marks a significant expansion into live events for Netflix, which will now stream Raw live every Monday night in the U.S., Canada, U.K. and Latin America, 52 weeks per year, with other territories to be added over time. [The story.]( —Shot through the heart! Hulu has acquired a four-part series about Bon Jovi. Titled Thank You, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story, the project comes from Gotham Chopra’s Religion of Sports banner and will chronicle the mega-selling rock band’s 40-year run of riding steel horses and giving love a bad name. Thank You, Goodnight is also the first retrospective on Bon Jovi’s history that will feature participation from all present and past members of the band. Due to the WGA strike, Rick all Morty will return for its eighth season sometime in 2025, ending the show’s recent streak of having new episodes annually (the show’s seventh season had its finale in December). Additionally, the show’s seventh season is now on Max, which means that all Rick and Morty episodes are now on the streamer. Also, the debut season of spin-off Rick and Morty: The Anime will premiere this year, and Adult Swim has released the first in-show footage from the project. [The story.]( —Act the fool. BET+ is developing a half-hour dramedy inspired by the life of rapper-actor Ludacris. The streamer says the untitled DJ project is inspired by Ludacris’ "experience coming up in the competitive music scene in Atlanta as DJ Chris Lova Lova." Noah Gardenswartz (Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) will write the script and exec produce the potential series, which is currently in the development stage. THR's [Borys Kit]( has the big scoop that Universal is deep into the development of an all-new Jurassic World movie and has David Koepp penning the script. Koepp was the writer of the original Jurassic Park and the sequel Jurassic Park: The Lost World. Borys writes that the project is far enough along, and the script in a well-liked shape, that the studio is whispering about a possible 2025 release date. There is no director on board, but Frank Marshall, the veteran producer who oversaw the Jurassic World trilogy, is back producing, as is Patrick Crowley. [The story.]( —Snapped up! Netflix has acquired the horror thriller It’s What’s Inside, three days after the project debuted at Sundance as part of the fest’s horror-centric Midnight Section. The feature hails from writer director Greg Jardin, and centers on a pre-wedding party that becomes a nightmare when an estranged friend shows up with a mysterious suitcase. Netflix reportedly paid $17m for the film, which would make it the highest sale of the festival so far this year. [The story.]( —Back for Christmas. Lindsay Lohan is set to star in the Netflix holiday film Our Little Secret, which is directed by Stephen Herek and also stars Kristin Chenoweth, Ian Harding, Jon Rudnitsky and Chris Parnell. The feature is part of Lohan’s two-picture deal with the streamer. Hailey DeDominis penned the film about two resentful exes forced to spend Christmas under the same roof after discovering that their current partners are siblings. THR's nicest man [Chris Gardner]( reports on Malia Obama's time at the Sundance Film Festival, where the former first daughter and first-time filmmaker debuted her short film The Heart. Obama could be seen at filmmaker Q&As and talking to schoolchildren, but was also spotted at the Neon party, caught a performance of rapper Too Short at Tao Park City, stopped by the Macro Lodge and hung out with stars of The White Lotus. During an appearance on Matt Belloni's podcast The Town, Sundance Institute CEO Joanna Vicente addressed the possibility of moving the festival out of Park City, where it has taken place since the early ’80s. There have long been rumblings about Sundance moving. Locals complain about the stress it brings to the small town, with a massive influx of people crushing the city’s local business and public transport every January.
