If you’ve ever thought about becoming a coach, now is the perfect time to jump in. Today, I’m going in on the facts and numbers to show why becoming a coach isn’t just fulfilling and fun AF, but also a smart financial move as we head into 2025. ⭐️ Star this email as a comprehensive resource that you can go back to again and again. If you’re even tinkering with the idea of becoming a coach, you’re going to need this juicy info. The Power of the Niche Before we get into the stats, let’s address a common myth: “Coaching is oversaturated. There's no room for me.” That just isn’t true. The coaching world is far from shrinking—it’s expanding, thanks to the power of niches. Back in the day, it was all “life coach” this, “executive coach” that. But now? There are so many ways you can carve out a space in coaching. Think leadership for introverts, financial coaching for creatives, wellness coaching for Black women, and so much more. There is a niche out there that’s perfect for YOU and your unique talents. You just have to find it. The Stats Don’t Lie The coaching industry has exploded by 62% since 2019 and is now a $6.25 billion market. And what’s even better? It’s projected to nearly double to $11.7 billion by 2032. That’s some serious shmoney, people! Here’s another fun fact: Yes, the coaching industry feels saturated, but that’s all perception (and the algorithm doing its thing). The fact is, there are only 109,200 certified coaches worldwide (while 4.7 million list coaching on their LinkedIn profiles). Compare that to, say, the 93.7 million teachers across the globe. There’s PLENTY of room for someone with your unique gifts. And I’m hitting you with more! Large companies depend on coaching to solidify their teams. In fact, a recent survey noted that 86% of companies multiplied their coaching investment by 5x to 7x! That’s what I call impact. Speaking of which, what impact does coaching have on individual clients? Below are some stats from a global survey conducted by the International Coach Federation. Let’s see… - 80% of coaching clients reported improved self-confidence - 73% experienced improved relationships - 72% saw improved communication skills - 70% reported improved work performance - 61% reported improved business management skills. This data highlights that coaching leads to significant improvements in both personal and professional aspects of clients’ lives. So… is Coaching Worth It for Me? Short answer: Hell yes! Coaching can not only make you a killing financially—it has the power to make a lasting positive impact on your clients’ lives. And trust me, there’s no shortage of people who need your help. Did you know 43% of Americans want to start a business? And 33% of them are first-time entrepreneurs with ZERO experience? Guess what—they need someone who can guide them, keep them focused, and help them make smart moves. They need YOU. Let’s Talk Money: How Much Do Coaches Make? I know, this is the part you’ve been waiting for. It’s time to talk about the financial side of coaching, because the bottom line is why we’re here! Coaching is a lucrative career path that can go as far as your imagination can take you. Let’s get into it: The average coach charges a sweet $244 per hour– that’s almost $500 for a 2-hour session. Just imagine what that adds up to when you start taking on multiple clients every week. But hourly sessions aren’t the only way you could make bank from coaching. When I say the sky’s the limit, I mean it! Coach part time, full-time, or scale it even further (like I did). You can expand your reach and coach to the masses via a podcast, TV show or live events that attract paying clients. I’d recommend adding coaching services to your existing business to start like I did – once I added coaching, the cash couldn’t help but flow: Here’s how much I made when I added coaching to my existing business*: Year 1: Part-time coaching added to my law practice = $150,000 in coaching Year 2: Still part-time coaching while winding down my law practice = $300,000 in coaching Year 3: First year doing full-time coaching = $1,000,000! * To be clear, I worked my ass off so I don’t want you to think this money just found me. I had to do a lot of marketing to gain these clients but it was doable while still practicing law and taking care of three children. My income from my first and second years offering business coaching are consistent with what research shows. According to Glass Door, business coaches earn $140,000 to $262,000 annually, on average, and life coaches earn $51,000 to $92,000, comparably. The great thing is, in this industry all you have to do is ask yourself: How much do I want to make? Then create an actionable offer plan to get there. Here are some more examples of leaders in the field and their offers (these are estimates based on public data): ⭐️ Up to $500,000: Kimberly Brown: A career coach and speaker, Kimberly scaled her coaching business to $500,000 by offering career strategy sessions, group coaching, and corporate training focused on empowering women of color in the workplace. ⭐️ Up to $1 Million: Trudi Lebron: Trudi is a DEI coach and business strategist who hit $1 million with her coaching and consulting business, focusing on equity-centered coaching programs and workshops that support coaches and entrepreneurs in building anti-racist, inclusive businesses. ⭐️ Up to $15 Million: Mel Robbins: Motivational coach and author, Mel has built a $50M brand with her coaching, keynote speaking, and digital courses. She turned a single TEDx talk into an empire, with the cornerstone being her coaching on mindset and behavior change. ⭐️ Up to $20 Million: Lisa Nichols: Motivational speaker and coach, Lisa has scaled her personal development empire to $20M, offering coaching, books, and speaking engagements. She started by empowering women and has now touched millions of lives globally. ⭐️ Up to $100+ Million: Tony Robbins & Oprah Winfrey: These titans of coaching have empires worth hundreds of millions, leveraging coaching, massive events, media production, and personal development. They’ve transformed millions of lives and built businesses that dominate the industry. Yes, You Can Make a Great Coach. Here’s the thing: the best coaches in the world didn’t start out knowing they’d become coaches. I sure didn’t. Many came from completely different careers. What makes coaching great is that it’s about owning your story, embracing your unique work and life experience, and using it to help others grow into their potential. And if you are from a historically excluded community, your unique perspective is needed more than ever in coaching! There are currently not enough diverse coaches available to coach all of the diverse people seeking coaching. You have the skills. You have the experience. And you have the heart.
