Women’s pain is often dismissed as a physical manifestation Women’s pain is often dismisse

Women’s pain is often dismissed as a physical manifestation Women’s pain is often dismissed as a physical manifestation of stress, anxiety, or depression… Does that sound familiar? [Take Survey]( Gender bias in the healthcare system is real. One recent study observed that when male and female patients expressed the same amount of pain, women’s pain was viewed as less intense and more likely to benefit from psychotherapy than medication as compared to men’s pain. And research from the University of Rhode Island found that women who had coronary bypass surgery were only half as likely to be prescribed painkillers, compared to men who had the same procedure. If you are a woman who has found yourself in a sterile room, wearing a single-ply paper gown, and facing a doctor who clearly believes that your pain is “all in your head,” you are far from alone. We want to understand why women must advocate harder to get the diagnosis and treatment they need. If you’re a woman in chronic pain, take our [brief survey]( and help us tell your story.
