Itâs time for me to answer more of your burning questions, {NAME}... [Dr. Steven Gundry | Founder, Gundry MD]( {NAME} â ready for some health tips? I hope so⦠Because itâs time for another round of âAsk Dr. G!â Lately, I've received a lot of great questions about food and nutrition⦠So today, I'm answering a few right here in this newsletter. Letâs dive in! Question #1: What's the healthiest type of BREAD? The short answer: Sourdough or millet bread. Most breads are packed with lectins, which can wreak havoc on your gut and digestion. But sourdough bread is made using a fermentation process which helps remove some of those harmful lectins, making it a way better choice. Millet bread â which is a lectin-free bread made from millet flour â is also great. Itâs packed with nutrients that support your energy levels and cognitive health. Now, many store-bought sourdoughs arenât truly fermented â so be sure your sourdough bread says âfermentedâ on the packaging⦠And make sure your sourdough bread doesnât contain glyphosate â an extremely harmful compound that disrupts your digestion. Almost all wheat in the US is sprayed with Roundup to assist in harvesting. And no, it is not listed on the label! And sadly, even wheat imported from other countries and used here is probably US wheat that was sent to Europe, refined, and then sent back! Question #2: When is the best time to EAT? Timing your meals can dramatically boost your health and energy. I recommend following a time-controlled eating schedule, where you consume all your meals within an 6-8 hour window. For example, try having your first meal later in the morning, and your last meal in the late afternoon or early evening⦠And aim to eat your last meal at least 3 hours before bedtime. This helps your digestion sync up with your body's natural rhythm, which improves your metabolism, energy levels, and longevity. Question #3: What's the healthiest SODA alternative? Traditional sodas are loaded with sugar and artificial ingredients that can disrupt your health, digestion, and weight goals. Instead, opt for sparkling water infused with natural flavors like lemon or lime. You can also make a refreshing drink by mixing balsamic vinegar (my famous âfake cokeâ) or apple cider vinegar with sparkling water and a dash of cinnamon. This not only satisfies your soda craving, but also supports your gut and digestive system. Question #4: What's the best BREAKFAST to start the day? I suggest starting your day with a combination of healthy fats and proteins. Avocado with poached eggs or a smoothie with greens, coconut milk, and a scoop of plant-based protein powder ([this one is my favorite]() are all excellent choices in my book. These foods provide sustained energy and support your friendly gut bacteria⦠Plus, they help you avoid an âafternoon crashâ or evening energy slump. Question #5: Are there any foods I should AVOID completely? Yes. Certain foods can be very harmful to your health â especially those high in dangerous proteins called lectins and processed sugars. Avoid grains like wheat and corn, as well as nightshades such as peppers, eggplant, and tomatoes⦠unless theyâre peeled and deseeded. Instead, focus on consuming a variety of vegetables, healthy fats, and proteins to maintain optimal health. Foods like leafy greens, olive oil, wild-caught fish, avocados, nuts, and cruciferous vegetables like broccoli and cauliflower are all fantastic for you⦠So eat LOTS of these foods â and avoid lectin-heavy foods as much as possible. Alright, thatâs all the questions I have time for today, {NAME}. But believe me, thereâs a TON of questions I still havenât gotten to⦠So stay tuned for more! And keep those questions coming. :) Looking out for you, Steven Gundry, MD
