In one of Groundworkâs target states, Oklahoma, lawmakers passed bipartisan legislation protecting election officials from intimidation and harassment. But in Mississippi, another target state of ours, Republicans criminalized using a friend or neighbor to return an absentee ballot, further restricting the stateâs already limited mail-in voting system. In Alabama, they went so far as to try and make helping someone with their absentee ballot a felony.
