In one of Groundwork’s target states, Oklahoma, lawmakers passed bipartisan legislation protecting election officials from intimidation and harassment. But in Mississippi, another target state of ours, Republicans criminalized using a friend or neighbor to return an absentee ballot, further restricting the state’s already limited mail-in voting system. In Alabama, they went so far as to try and make helping someone with their absentee ballot a felony. Transformative legislation is being debated right now and we must do everything we can to stop restrictive voting bills and support efforts to help pass legislation that makes our elections more accessible and fair.
