As our kids are 7 and 9, we’re constantly on the lookout for opportunities to teach them things about how to operate in the world at a level they can grasp. So much is new to them, and we feel a responsibility to introduce new ways of thinking in their formative minds. We’ve been working for several years to teach our kids about the relationship between working and earning money, and they pretty much grasp it at this point. This weekend we took them to a huge community yard sale, and we specifically wanted to teach them about bargains. We showed them what great deals they could get if they had the patience and perseverance to hunt for them. This concept sunk in more than it has before and we had a great time. They were able to acquire a huge Snap Circuits set that was about 5% of the retail cost and they were elated. We had a family outing with teachable moments and got an educational new toy they feel proud they earned. A great weekend!
