In partnership with the PepsiCo Foundation Women farmers play a critical role in global food product

In partnership with the PepsiCo Foundation [View this in your browser]( Women farmers play a critical role in global food production and represent 43% of agriculture labor in developing countries. Yet female farmers in many parts of the world may work more hours than men, are less likely to hold land titles, and have less access than men to the financial credit to buy key inputs like fertilizers, quality seeds, and machinery. They are also less likely to have received education, training and other forms of support. If women farmers had the same access to productive resources as men, they could increase yields on their farms by 20-30% — and potentially reduce the number of hungry people in the world by 100-150 million. As a business rooted in agriculture, PepsiCo believes one critical way to support a more sustainable food system is by empowering women. Through its partnership with CARE and its "[She Feeds the World]( program, the PepsiCo Foundation seeks to tackle gender inequality in agriculture. The $18.2 million grant will provide 5 million female farmers and their families around the world with education, resources, and economic support to help them increase their crop yields, incomes and access to nutrition locally. The [Closing the Crop Gap]( campaign aims to raise the profile of women in agriculture and give them a platform to tell their own stories in their own voice and to use this as an impetus to build new momentum and new partnerships to advance gender equity in global agriculture.
