Despite a relatively mild week of trading due to light macroeconomic data reporting, gold maintained stability with a trading range of about $30/oz. A significant factor was the US Dollar reaching a 38-year high against the Japanese Yen, which initially suppressed gold prices. However, midweek support from buyers helped maintain prices near the $2300/oz level. On Thursday, the Durable Goods report and the revised Q1 GDP growth rate indicated a slowdown in consumer spending, prompting speculation that the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) might cut interest rates sooner to avoid a recession.
