Gold prices experienced significant volatility this week due to various economic data releases. Initially, gold prices held firm despite headwinds from macroeconomic data. However, they took a hit when China's central bank unexpectedly paused its gold purchases for the first time in 18 months, signaling a potential reduction in demand. This move sent gold prices plummeting from a high of $2380/oz to $2335/oz. Additionally, the U.S. May Jobs Report surprised markets with a robust gain of 272,000 jobs, which strengthened the U.S. Dollar and further pressured gold prices, causing them to drop nearly $100/oz by Friday morning.
